There's a fun little film that no-one has seen called FISH DON'T BLINK (2002)"A desperate young couple, on the run from the mob, drop anchor at a remote rundown restaurant in the middle of the desert named the Nautilus. At first, it seems like a great place to hideout but soon they find themselves smack dab in the center of a family that gives a whole new definition to the word crazy and makes them think that maybe they'd be better off with the mob. " It's actually better than that synopsis makes it sound. Lea Thompson, Wil Wheaton and Richard Greico star. User reviews

Heartbreak Hotel (1988) The Tagline: 1972. My family needed some help, my town needed a hero, and my band needed a break. So I borrowed Mom's pink Cadillac and I kidnapped Elvis Presley, and our lives were never the same again. Another one that is better than it sounds. David Keith is really REALLY good as Elvis and we get to see perennial beauty Tuesday Weld as mom. User Reviews

GAS -
The Millionaire (1931) - The great George Arliss at his most charming as a retired - and very bored - auto manufacturing magnate who buys a half interest in a struggling service station, then brings all his business savvy to bear in battling the ruthless competition up the road. Remade in 1947 as That Way With Women with Sydney Greenstreet.
Fury (1936) - Fritz Lang's examination of lynch-mob mentality finds Spencer Tracy convincing his small-time-hood brothers to go straight, partnering with him in a service station, and is himself then railroaded for a crime he didn't commit.
The Big Broadcast Of 1938 (1938) It has nothing to do with the plot, but W.C. Fields wreaks havoc on a ludicrously deluxe super service station (where the uniformed, bugle-blowing staff outnumbers the customers a dozen to one).
Out Of the Past (1947) - Jacques Tourneur's quintessential noir with Robert Mitchum as the owner of a gas station in a dusty California town whose past - in the forms of Kirk Douglas and Jane Greer - catches up with him.
Impact (1949) - Nifty thriller with plot twists aplenty and Brian Donlevy as an exec taking refuge as a mechanic in a small Idaho town after his faithless wife's murder plot goes wrong. Charles Coburn in an uncharacteristic role as the dogged detective unraveling the mystery of the man who died instead, and silent screen star Mae Marsh giving a lovely performance as a sympathetic benefactor. Whoops! I see teleadm has already listed it, but I'm leaving it on my list 'cause I like it so much.
Bad Day At Black Rock (1955) - Anne Francis runs the gas station/garage in the desert town with a secret that mysterious stranger Spencer Tracy becomes intent on uncovering.
Bonnie and Clyde (1967) - When he makes an impression on the outlaws, resourceful mechanic C.W. Moss is happy to accept their offer to join up.
FOOD -
The Goldwyn Follies (1938) - In an urban diner, Kenny Baker introduces the Gershwin standard, "Love Walked In."
Sullivan's Travels (1941) - Dissatisfied director Joel McCrae, on the road as a hobo to experience hardship firsthand, is taken pity upon by down-and-out actress Veronica Lake when he stops in a diner for coffee and sinkers.
The Asphalt Jungle (1950) - On-the-lam Sam Jaffe allows himself a rest and some entertainment, by way of a handful of coins, the jukebox and an obliging teenage girl in a roadside diner.
Bus Stop (1956) Everything comes to climax and resolution at Grace's Diner on the way from Arizona to Montana.
The Neon Ceiling (1971) - Gig Young has his last great role as the enigmatic host to runaway wife Lee Grant in an unusually thoughtful and touching made-for-TV film.
Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore (1974) - Newly-widowed Ellen Burstyn comes to rest at Mel & Ruby's Diner while she rethinks her plans, priorities and life.
LODGING -
It Happened One Night (1934) - "Motor courts" galore in Frank Capra's iconic road film.
A Star Is Born (1954) - Hiding out from fans, Judy Garland and James Mason spend their wedding night in a dreary motel (with coin-operated radio).
Touch Of Evil (1958) - Janet Leigh experiences some bordertown motel hell in Orson Welles' adventurous and expressionistic noir.
That Touch Of Mink (1961) - Attempting to make Cary Grant jealous, Doris Day arranges a motel rendezvous with John Astin...and poor John Fiedler's honeymoon is wrecked in the process.

"American gas stations, motels and diners."

Sultry waitress Stella (Linda Darnell) is the main drawcard at a greasy spoon Diner called Pops Eats in Otto Preminger's Fallen Angel (1945)
Gas station and Diner are important elements that influence the outcome for charming sociopath Steve Morgan (Lawrence Tierney) and all concerned in the excellent B Noir from Felix E. Feist, The Devil Thumbs A Ride (1947)
Ida Lupino sings the classic Johnny Mercer song "One for My Baby (and One More for the Road), starring as Lily Stevens she has taken job as a singer at a roadhouse in a Backwoods town in Roadhouse (1948) from director Jean Negulesco .
