Brigitte Bardot turn 84 y/o today maybe (depends on sources). Even sex-symbols grow old, sadly Many have heard about her, but have you seen her? in any movies? She retired from movies in 1973 after playing a female Don Juan. A little uncomplete trip down memory lane: Doctor at Sea 1954, with Dirk Bogarde Cette sacrée gamine aka Mam'zelle Pigalle aka Naughty Girl 1956 Et Dieu créa la femme aka ... and God Created Woman 1956, with Jean-Louis Trintignant, making St. Tropez a hot spot. Une Parisienne 1957, with Charles Boyer Babette s'en va-t-en guerre aka Babette Goes to War 1959 La Vérité aka The Truth 1960 Le Mépris aka Contempt 1963, with Jack Palance, Michel Piccoli and Fritz Lang Une ravissante idiote aka The Ravishing Idiot 1964, with Anthony Perkins Dear Brigitte 1965, making a cameo as herself, with James Stewart. Viva Maria! 1965, with Jeanne Moreau Shalako 1968, with Sean Connery Les Pétroleuses aka The Legend of Frenchy King 1971 Don Juan ou Si Don Juan était une femme... aka Don Juan, or If Don Juan Were a Woman 1973, with Jane Birkin L'histoire très bonne et très joyeuse de Colinot Trousse-Chemise aka The Edifying and Joyous Story of Colinot 1973, with Nina Companeez, after this Brigitte retired from the movies, but not from public life, saving seals and supporting Le Pen and other things we don't wan't to know about. Don't let kids here this! If they know French!

Yes - she's one of those who is (or certainly was) a household name without anyone but hard core buffs being able to name a film she appeared in.... sometimes a "saucy" X rated image/persona (and an exposed derriere) is enough I guess. Something similar occurred a bit later on with Raquel Welch. I get the impression Bardot was more popular as an export than domestically - The French pleased to have a global star of her magnitude, but actually preferring to watch Michele Morgan or Annie Girardot themselves.
Her DOCTOR film was heavily televised when i was a lad so that is where I knew her from mostly initially (and the bit in HELEN OF TROY). Can't say I was ever much of a fan, but LA VERITE was a good one and SHALAKO is a guilty pleasure I'd like to revisit.

I sometimes work as a volonteer at senior citizens homes, talking about old times, helping them remember, and so on, mostly talking about movies and music, since I think their stories is valuable. Most of them offcourse know about Brigitte Bardot, but the only movie they can remember is funny enough Doctor at Sea and some jeans poster from the 1970s, and gossip rivalery with Claudia Cardinale (BB and CC).

Yes - Here are BB and CC just about to bitchslap each other If their rivalry were genuine I'm sure the film would have been better ! Here's alleged "friend" Jane Birkin sticking the knife in via The Daily Mail about Bardot's "dubious private life" (as background info for the uninitiated THE DAILY MAIL thinks pretty much everyone up to and including Gandhi has a "dubious private life") Sad Bardot. Shame she doesn't have a legacy of great movies.... most today probably know her (if at all) as the crazy one who aged badly and likes dogs more than migrants

She is frequently in the news for being very outspoken.
Sexy woman though back in her days. One of the all-time greatest of the category. I Still need to see a few more of her movies to better estimate her acting talents.
