If the U.S. had stayed out of Irag and allowed Saddam Hussein, a secular leader, to remain in power he could have kept a lid on these Islamic fundie crazies. America is more to blame for this mess than anyone.
Ditto for Afghanistan where the U.S. toppled a progressive feminist Marxist government and put the Taliban in power.
You reap what you sow.

Never Islam’s fault is it... You said this. You also said this: Fundamentalist Christians and fundamentalist Muslims: Is there a difference?

Islam is the root of the problem. You can argue about how this tragedy could have been prevented all you like but it’s all ifs and buts. The fact is honour killings, infighting, terrorism, suicide bombings, beheadings, rape, pedophillia, anti-free speech, jizya, slavery, public lashings, religious intolerance, FGM, murder of apostates and homosexuals. These are all byproducts of Islam and will continue to be a blight on civilisations where ever it’s practiced. Contrary to what planks like Graham and Phludowin want you to believe, but I do not hate Muslims. I hate Islam because it’s a despicable and evil religous and political ideology that’s caused nothing but hardship for 1400 years. I believe Muslims are just as much victims of Islam as anyone else. The Middle East would be a far better more prosperous, advanced, peaceful and civilised place now if that religion never existed.

The Middle East would be a far better more prosperous, advanced, peaceful and civilised place if that religion never existed. The majority of Muslims are just decent working people. I agree with you Islam is a relic of the past though. The Muslim nations need to progress into the 21st century. And the tide of history is against Islam. It will most likely be a dead religion in 100 years. But U.S. involvement in the Middle east has done nothing but delay that process. Hussein was a secularist, not a religious fanatic. Afghanistan had a progressive government and the U.S. went in against Russia and installed the Taliban.
