The only thing I find more appalling is gaining a point for an OT Loss in the NHL. These teams finish play late October (correct me if I'm wrong - haven't some WS stretched out into November?) Then we have the Winter Meetings. Catchers and pitchers report in February. We then have an incredibly ridiculous Spring Training Exhibition Season. What proceeds is 162 games. I've heard complaints on here the NBA is a 365/12 league - well - so is the MLB to an extent. Your team has scratched and clawed all season to make the playoffs - and if you're a WC it comes down to a '1 Game Playoff' if you happen to be paired in the same division with a dominant leader - while you yourself are also considered 'Dominant'. A's and Yanks fans - I feel your pain. Old NFL argument - 'Any Given Sunday' - anybody can beat anybody - but to dedicate your heart and soul to a year and be a dominant team (while some other divisions/other league may be weak) and have it rest on a '1 Game Playoff' if the most absurd concept in the history of Western Civilization to me. So what is the answer? Any suggestions? Realignment? Nix the divisions and leagues and just go standing wise 1-30 - maybe go back to a 1 team Wild Card? I say you make the WC Game a 3 Game Playoff. Best of 3. This fixes everything. What say you?  |

Agreed, the Wild Card should be a three game playoff, it’s not fair to have it all come down to 1 game, anything can happen in one game, it’s not fair to have a team’s season end on a fluke which could easily happen in 1 game.

Baseball is unique in a sense that only the 'Elite' (supposedly) are getting in. But if you're Elite (look at the As and Yanks) - a one game playoff is blasphemy and ridiculous. Heart has always gone out to the loser and their fanbases. If the Phils were in it - I wouldn't like it - and can imagine the uproar if they lost one (they've never been in one). It's just a crock of sh*t IMO. Hell - even in the regular season we see a last place division team knock off a division leader. It's 1 Game for Christs Sakes. Ludicrous. Look at what is going on with the NL right now with some teams on the outside who may be even looking in for a 1 game playoff. |

Historic franchises in large markets - would be epic. They were both the 'lovable losers' for so many years. That being said - I wouldn't mind the Braves in there and winning the WS. Have put this opinion out there multiple times and I tend to be in the 1% - i.e. the vast minority. Phils go into next season gunning for the Division Champs who also happen to be the World Series Champs - every series is intriguing and you're gunning for your rival - i.e. the Champs. Some don't get this stance - to each their own - they'd rather beat up on The Little Sisters of the Poor and still call them your rivals  |

I have always hated the 1 game playoff as the first year it was implemented fucked my Braves over. Cardinals got in as the 2nd wild card and then that game was riddled in controversy as an Umpire called an infield fly rule on a ball in the outfield that ended up not being caught turning what could have been a run scoring hit into an automatic out. It was complete and utter bullshit and knowing that was the last game of Chipper Jones hall of fame career pisses me off to this day. MLB had one of the best playoff formats with the 1 wild card team. I miss it.

I'd love to see the Braves win it. However I don't think they make it past the first round. I just don't think they match up very well against the other teams. I have zero faith in their bullpen so if it comes down to that which a lot of playoff games do then they'll blow it. In terms of rival teams and such. I don't usually hate teams but mostly the fan bases because so many fan bases can get SUPER annoying and it makes me wish for them to never be happy. Boston fans have become super obnoxious ever since the Patriots and Red Sox started winning championships so in turn I root against them. When it comes to the Nationals though, I actively dislike that team because I find Harper to be a total douche bag and I felt that they were entitled to a Championship despite never earning a damn thing. That "where's our ring?" comment really was annoying. |

I say no. You scratch and claw for 162 games to position yourself for the postseason. The only reason the regular season exists is to allow teams to prove themselves and gain entry into the postseason. They could just as easily eliminate one of the two play in teams arbitrarily and advance the other to the next round. But they offer them this one last shot to prove they belong. Make it count.
