I think it just has to be. Bittersweet gets it, from beginning to end. Sometimes it is nearly unbearable, but I wouldn't trade this emotion for anything in the world. It is exquisite.

Bittersweet is like an even keel. Not too saccharine and not too incendiary. Right, and I think this would be where "exquisite" applies

I'm not sure if it's the most precious, but it's one I seem to experience more and more as I grow older...

It depends on personal view. Some might say feeling of contentment is the best state of mind. Others may find pure happiness and bliss as the most precious of emotions. A young couple may not trade love for anything else and may like to live in that state forever.
I kind of long for contentment as in Vedanta/Buddhist sort of contentment. Not the dictionary definition of contentment.

I'm trying to work towards contentment, but bills keep showing up in my mailbox...

Still, it's nice to know my utility companies care about me so much...
Hey, that's my theory and I'm sticking to it!

Same here (or in fact much worse). I want to feel content but it's not what I usually feel. Usual feeling is that there's a storm inside my head. I am trying hard to be as stress free as possible but it's not always the case. That said I have improved considerably compared to how I felt a few years back. By the way, I should tell you that I have decided to leave Australia and return to India. Australia has been a great country. Never had a problem here in 4 years. But I desire change now. India's market is more competitive because it's very crowded so I think it might bring more out of me.

I have storms in my head, too, wondering how to get everything done and pay the bills and try to have a life, too... I've learned to take the little moments that life gives and appreciate them more. Good luck back in India, I bet you will be more comfortable culturally and it's good that the market is competitive, there. And there will be 'no worries' about being eaten by some bizarre Australian snake or stung by some weird sea life. Just the environment you grew up with so that's one less stress! When are you going?

Last week of October. Got tickets (Sri Lankan Airlines so a couple of hours of transit in Sri Lanka). I have to apply for jobs in India now. I still don't know in which part of India I will find the new job. I personally prefer Delhi. One problem with India is that people talk about politics a lot there. In that regard Australia is very cool. But yeah there are some advantages. Strolling in busy streets at night is what I like a lot. That I can do in any part of India. Not so much here because other than city center, Melbourne almost closes after 8pm. I prefer buzz of people even if I don't interact with people. I just like silently walking in noisy bazaar at night.
