I watched this for the first time a couple of days ago and really enjoyed it. Vincent Price gives a great performance and it does a great job of building suspense. It should really be talked about more due to it's influence on the zombie genre, despite the fact the creatures in the movie are supposed to be vampires. I give it a 9/10.

Richard Matheson said he encountered George Romero somewhere and the latter looked at him and threw up his hands to exclaim: "but it didnt make any money!"
Meaning he was acknowledging the influence TLMOE had on NOTLD.
I wish the vampires looked scarier and they had Price doing the closing narration from the book. Otherwise its a pretty good adaptation.

Minor, but effective. Price is excellent, of course. 6/10

Best adaptation of "I am Legend" by far. The scene of the lead character's wife returning is a great moment in horror film history.

8/10 Best adaptation of "I am Legend" by far. The scene of the lead character's wife returning is a great moment in horror film history. I have seen the 2007 version. I like that one, but I agree that this one is better. I still need to see The Omega Man.

Never seen it. You should definitely check it out if you like this sort of movie. It is public domain, so you can find it anywhere.

Price is oddball casting, but he's very good in this. He puts a human face on the horror; the scenes where he's overjoyed at discovering the dog who's survived, and then his anguish at discovering it's been infected and has to be destroyed are extremely touching and real. It's the sort of touch that puts this version in a different and better league than the subsequent films.
