Highlander, especially given what they did in Highlander 2, dear god that was atrocious.

They Call Me Mr Tibbs!
I knew it was a sequel to In the Heat of the Night but didn't realize there was a sequel to it-called the Organization.

Dennis the Menace.
There's two sequels, including a Christmas one involving time travel and Robert Wagner as Mr Wilson.

Grease, there was no need for a sequel which just sucked anyway.
Breakin' the sequel "Electric Boogaloo" became a term for unnecessary sequels. Oddly the sequel was planned from the first film as it is mentioned at the end.
Ghostbusters, I like the original film but all they can really do for a sequel is the same thing as the first film. Which they pretty much do, right down to fighting City Hall again.
Teen Wolf - Sequel doesn't even have M J Fox and is basically a remake of the first.
Blues Brothers - Even if Belushi was still alive it would be pointless but with the ever dull Goodman?!

Ghostbusters they could do a lot with to be fair, you could show them now as the heroes of New York who have mostly coasted off of the first films climax, who make money from their celeb status and the ghost they deal with since have been low level hauntings, the guys have for the most part gone into their own projects and lost a step or two, then a new wave of ghost hit and they fail to stop them, this makes the city turn on them whilst they now need to uncover why the paranormal activity has risen so quickly, or do a simple haunted house type of film as more an episodic style of sequel, hell you could have them be facing other types of ghost's or spirits.
I think the fact Ghostbusters has had 2 good cartoon series about it, a solid game sequel as well as either comics or books based off of it shows the potential for sequels was always there and more stories to mine, GB2 just wasn't the best way to do it is all.

A terrible movie called "Criminally Insane" spawned an even worse sequel. The name of that movie was "Fat Crazy Ethel". It was pretty bad.
But the first one had some oddly funny moments, like ***spoilers alert*** When Fat Alice wants some Nilla Wafers while she watches "Gunsmoke", she has to chop off her granny's hand, which hold the key to the goodies' safe. Then, when the delivery boy comes with the groceries, he says "Your bill is 82 dollars", to which Ethel replies "I don't have it. I only have four dollars!" and then she pulls him into her house and bludgeons him so she can enjoy her junk food. It's pretty delirious.

That is true that would have been better than have them demoted back to loser status and start all over again. One scene that doesn't make sense is when they are drilling on the street and the cop asks them what they are doing and Bill Murray I think it is just puts on the tough NY worker thing and the cop drives off. I mean these guys saved the city a few years prior from a giant marshmellow man, and the cop doesn't recognize any of them and ask why they are now construction workers?

That and Murray's character is also meant to be the host of a popular TV show as well, like you said though they would be all famous locally even if people didn't consider them heroes the antics of the 1st film were major news, didn't they get sued to high heaven because of the damages and such? surely new Yorkers would recognise these guys.
They could have had one of the guys who came up to them recognise them but play along, specifically have the guy who notices them have a thick new York accent showing he's the local but the other guy have a more neutral or maybe Bostonian or southern accent to point out he's not local, hence why he wouldn't recognise them.
Problem is though this was back then so a lot of this stuff wasn't thought about back then, where as now it's all we kind of think about.

We do scrutinize films more now. Although even when I saw it the first time I questioned that scene. I guess we all suspend our disbelief in different levels. It has gotten to the point now though where a film is too realistic to the point of boredom or they go the opposite direction and make it so crazy that you just see it as a parody almost.

Agreed. Where they told you what happened to everyone at the end, did we really need to see it?

I've caught bits here and there of BB 2K on movie channels but then switch the channel when it starts to jump the shark which seems to be many times during the movie.

America, America ––> The Arrangement Super Fly ––> Super Fly TNT The Last Picture Show ––> Texasville Loved The Last Picture Show but never got around to seeing the sequel. Larry McMurtry wrote both of those, plus he wrote Terms of Endearment, and also a sequel, The Evening Star, which I never did see either.

Mannequin II: On The Move I love Mannequin and entered into this sequel with much trepidation. Ended up enjoying as well.

Look Who's Talking. The novelty had worn thin and Look Who's Talking Too was the pits. The third one with the dogs was even better.

Rick Rosenthal's Halloween II - 81'. Myers was burnt to a crisp at the end, but they resurrected him for Halloween 4 and it sucked.

The Two Jakes, the Chinatown sequel. Never saw it and never intend too. It's really not as bad as it is said to be .. if it were a stand alone movie and not a "sequel", I think that the general reaction to it and opinion of it would be much different. Watching the two films as a double feature helps.

Texasville has many of the characters and actors from The Last Picture Show and given how endearing many of them are, Texasville is on my list, just not terribly high on it.
