We all deserve to treat ourselves once in a while. I care about calories but once in a while we all need sweetness. The shop is called Ablas Patisserie and they give you mixed sweets in either 1/2 kg or 1 kg packs. I think it costs 16$ to get 0.5 kg (Aus $) Gonna get Bakalava of various kinds. Do you guys love Bakalava?

Love baklava but not too syrupy (the first one looks too heavy for me, and chocolate on the second is just ugh). The best kind is with almond (also the most expensive) and then pistachio. If you can get baklava that looks like this, rather than a clump in the middle, it will be nicer and lighter tasting.  |

I have never tried the almond ones but now that you recommend I have to find them!
The ones I get from Ablas are not syrupy actually. These are just photos from google. The Ablas ones are moist but not dripping with syrups.

Too much sugar for me now, but they look delicious. I would especially like the almond and pistachio ones.

I do, indeed, love Baklava. I agree with "not too syrupy." And, by no means, ever chocolate!There are some eastern European markets in my district, which has been called "Little Russia," for generations. The pastries and cakes are amazing. But, as you say, severe restraint is in order. |
