Actor Scott Wilson, whose most notable role was as Dick Hickock in IN COLD BLOOD, passed away from leukemia yesterday at age 76.
While he never became as big a celebrity as co-star Robert Blake, he still appeared in numerous films and TV shows.
RIP, Scott.

What a sad loss this is. I had the good fortune to spend time on the set of GYPSY MOTHS when I was in college and got to know him a bit at that time. He was funny and nice. And a terrific actor, too, especially in IN COLD BLOOD.
May he rest in peace.

Scott Wilson IMDb Biography Excerpts from ^^^^ "One chillingly infamous screen role for Scott Wilson in 1967 set the tone for an actor who went on to prove himself an invaluable character player for the past five decades." "Scott's fledgling career took off big time after being discovered by director Norman Jewison who cast him as a murder suspect in In the Heat of the Night (1967) starring Sidney Poitier and Best Actor Oscar winner Rod Steiger. If that weren't a sufficient beginning, Wilson immediately followed this with the co-lead role of murderer Richard Hickok in the stark and disturbing In Cold Blood (1967), a superlative adaptation of the Truman Capote best-selling docu-novel. It didn't hurt that Scott himself had a startling resemblance to the real-life killer."

I grew to love him, as a huge fan of The Walking Dead, where he was the kind and wise Hershel Greene. Seeing him on the aftershow, Talking Dead, and reading interviews, he came across as a quiet, gentle man who loved acting and his fellow actors. Say what you will about that show, but the cast are probably the tightest knit cast on TV, everyone whose been on it will attest to that, so I'm sure they're all deeply saddened by the news today. It was recently announced he would be returning, most likely to film flashback scenes. He's had a varied film career, I've seen him in: In the Heat of the Night In Cold Blood The Great Gatsby (1974) The Right Stuff The Aviator (1985) Blue City Malone Johnny Handsome Young Guns II The Exorcist III Pure Luck Flesh and Bone Geronimo: An American Legend Tall Tale Judge Dredd The Grass Harp Dead Man Walking G.I. Jane Clay Pigeons The Way of the Gun The Animal Pearl Harbor Monster The Last Samurai Junebug The Host (2006) Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon The Heartbreak Kid (2007) I have The Exorcist III, The Way of the Gun, Pearl Harbor, Monster, The Last Samurai and Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon all in my movie collection. He really stood out in both In Cold Blood and The Great Gatsby, for me personally. Rest in peace.

Lebowskidoo π¦ A varied and long career indeed ! One of those character actors who are the backbones of great films. Always a pleasure to watch him at work. Nominated for a Golden Globe Award for THE NINTH CONFIGURATION (1980) - Supporting Actor

First time I noticed him was JUDGE DREDD--much like Frederic Forrest in FALLING DOWN I thought-who is this guy?
But I have seen him in other things and just didn't recognize him.

A first rate actor, and a versatile one; he was not a star, and I wonder if this bothered him. Either way, he had loads of talent and originality, for which he shall be remembered. RIP, Scott Wilson.

I remember his great performances, as good guys & bad guys, in these films:
As Scott Crossfield in "The Right Stuff" (1983)
As "Judd Travers" in the Shiloh films trilogy... "Shiloh" (1996) & "Shiloh 2: Shiloh Season" (1999) & "Saving Shiloh" (2006)... I may be mistaken, but I think he was the only actor to appear in all three films. Most of the roles were recast by the third film. "G.I. Jane" (1997)
"Pearl Harbor" (2001)
R.I.P. Mr. Scott Wilson
Thank You for the memories!
