He's not nice, but he's not wrong. Resources are limited, but that doesn't stop people from being greedy, gluttonous, etc. If you take the emotion and the speciest (not sure that's a word) aspect out of the argument and look at it objectively, it's not such an insane idea. We consume more resources than any species on the planet. We pollute the environment more than any species on the planet. Yet, we have no natural predators to keep us in check. As a species, we generally accept culling various animal populations when necessary. But even suggest it for ourselves? Madness! I'm not saying that I could do it, I'm just trying to talk about it from a strictly objective standpoint. Oh I agree; we're a gluttonous, greedy species and we do NOT live in harmony with nature. In fact we destroy nature for our own needs instead of living within its boundaries.
However...
There ae better ways than to kill off half of all life, or even just half of alWhen has that ever happened?l human life. For example: resource planning, budgeting and rationing, some regulation and fair re-distribution. We could also stop being assholes to nature. Movements to recycle and save the environment are the start of that. So we're kind've on the way already.
I know, I know, I'm asking for a lot. People cant stop being greedy; especially here in the U.S. where every third person you see is a fat ass.
But we're not over the cliff just yet. It can still be turned around. But only if we all work together. Unfortunately greed and politics are still getting in the way. We'll see what happens...
It's what we do whatever there is an animal population problem. Why is it okay to cull other animal populations, but not our own? These horses are going to be bought and sold and/or slaughtered simply because there's too many of them in that region.
