Forgot this film existed. From its Wikipedia page - "The film was a box office bomb, grossing just $12 million against its $90 million budget and losing the studio over $100 million, although the studio noted the main purpose of the film was to bring attention to the story, not make money."

Also commits the problem of having actors talk in really fake foreign accents.

It tried but it just didn't pan out very well.

I have this sitting on the shelf. Haven't tried to watch it yet. Only reason I picked it up is the unusual subject matter. Not too many films out there about Armenia and the Ottoman Empire.

There was another one from that same year called The Ottoman Lieutenant. I hadn’t bothered watching it but I heard and it’s my understanding that the film goes opposite and barely addressed the Armenian genocide. I remember also that Russell Crowe vehicle called The Water Diviner which I liked but it’s also fairly ignorant about the political tension at this time.

Yeah, I remember both films came out about the same time. It'd be interesting to watch them both back to back for different perspectives I suppose. I guess that film (Ottoman Lieutenant) was the official "Turkish history" of the time period.
