The Alien and Terminator franchises had female leads from the start. It's the fact that Star Wars and Ghostbusters did not that had fanboys up in arms. They feel like their beloved franchises are being taken away from them. If nothing else, maybe now they can empathize with cultural appropriation. Why is it “cultural appropriation” only works one way? Is it “cultural appropriation” when a black person turns on a light, watches a movie or drives a car? Yeah, can't believe TLJ haters get stereotyped with you representing.

Well you have to blame somebody, when you are not able to see that your movie is crap. But i do think there are people who hates a movie simply because there is a female lead, just as i think there are some people who loves a movie simply because there is a female lead. I would say the latter vastly outweighs the former. For every person who called Rey a Mary Sue there's about ten SJWs calling you a raging misogynist for thinking she's anything less than the greatest character in the history of fiction.

Why is it “cultural appropriation” if a white person wears dreads but not if a black person flys on a plane? What are the rules? ”cultural appropriation” seems really important to you, I just want to know what I can and cannot do.

I haven't read the study, perhaps I should, but you have grown very irritating to me. "Why is it a female centric movie like Alien or Aliens or Terminator or Halloween could be a hit 30-40 years ago......but people use hating women as an excuse for GB 2016 failing?" I don't necessarily think Ghostbusters failed because of sexism, I just don't think the movie appealed to many people. The trailers weren't particularly great and the movie itself was merely passable...but much sexism did shroud the movie, yes I'll give you that the cast and direct stirred the pot quite a bit, and the director has even acknowledged that he saw the movie as a political statement...but if this study says that Russian troll bots were used against the movie, that is definitely an issue. This is a foreign entity using the internet as a weapon to divide us during a very tumultuous political time. I would advise you to drop your petty squabble with a movie and open your eyes to that. You should be outraged. "Why is it people loved Princess Leia but if they don't like Rose Tico they're racist or hate women? Why, because some 14 year old troll on Twitter called her "ugly" or used a racist term? There's billions of people on social media....why do so many want to act like the worst represent the majority? Or if something is said on Twitter it's worthy of consideration?" I didn't even know there was such hatred against the Rose Tico character. I thought she was a great addition to the cast of characters. The issue isn't that people didn't care for her character, the issue is that people hated her character so much they turned their fire on the actress and ran her off the internet with hatred, racism, sexism and threats of rape and murder. That isn't good. You should be outraged. "I'm just baffled by the excuses people make for movies bombing nowadays. TLJ sucks. Ghostbusters 2016 sucked. It's that simple. They're bad movies and when you start attacking your audience (I'm looking right at you Paul Feig) IN THE FILM you're asking for trouble at the BO." I don't know if you got the memo, but Star Wars: The Last Jedi made over $450mill it's opening weekend, it made over a billion dollars in it's theatrical run. This is not a failure, it's among the most profitable movies of all time. You may not have liked it, but it has a 7.2/10 on IMDb, which I would classify as a well liked movie, but polarizing movie, with a very vocal minority that disliked it. It has a 91% Rotten Tomatoes score, it scored an "A" cinemascore. If you want to say the people who liked it, liked it because they're SJW's thats fine, but it's not reality. "Leave the politics out. Nobody cares if there are women or minorities if the movie is good. What's more is it's nothing new. Star Trek had women in positions of power and minorities 50 years ago. Everyone loves Star Trek." You're trying really hard to appear like you're not the politically motivated one. Why are you singling out The Last Jedi and Ghostbusters? Why isn't this post about, say, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom and Alien: Covenant? Those both had female leads, and those both underperformed by your standards. Why should anyone leave politics out when your politics are baked into your post? Did Jordan Peterson put you up to this? "I mean it's gotten so bad Rian Johnson is posting links to a "study" that shows Russian trolls were responsible for the reaction his movie got. How sad and pathetic is that?" Not sad and pathetic at all, I'm happy the man is encouraging his followers to inform themselves on something that is harming our culture. Grow up, kid. Love the avatar btw. Looks like you’ve got a book coming out. It's been out and is actually out of print, you might be able to find an old withered copy of it on eBay though. Love the avatar btw.

It absolutely was a failure, it didn't meet expectations, the audience hated it, and it damaged the SW brand which up to this point has been bulletproof. Solo bombing was a direct result of TLJ and the way Disney treated people who didn't like it. No, fuckwit, it was a huge success by every single objective measure that anyone who studies film uses. Every time you post you basically are telling the universe that TLJ haters are among the dumbest pieces of shit on Earth.
Didn't meet expectations? Doesn't matter--it made the studio tons of money. Historically sequels have always tended to make less and it is only recently that they have occasionally made more. TFA was the first Star Wars film in over a decade when people thought the series was done, so it had buzz and momentum that no sequel could match.
Audiences hated it? You have no credible evidence for this. As I keep telling you, even the editor of Rotten Tomatoes admits that audience scores on the site are bullshit data. Contrast this with the movie's Cinemascore, which interviews people right as they are walking out of the theater. It got an A, moron. Ordinary people like it-a lot.
The only people who hated the movie are a small, tiny minority of mostly loud, deluded idiots. Like you.
And you have absolutely no evidence that shows Solo's failure had anything to do with the Last Jedi. Given that reviews for the movie were so meh, its failure was due to its being not very good.

Likewise, no one calls it cultural appropriation when a black man drives a car for the same reason no one calls it cultural appropriation when a white person uses an automatic gear shift or traffic light. Stop being obtuse. And yes, black people have contributed other things to mankind besides dreadlocks. Surprise.

Break down why dreadlocks are "cultural appropriation" but flying in a plane isn't. I'm just wondering why cultural appropriation only works one way because everybody in the US uses stuff from around the world.... but the only time "cultural appropriation" is brought up is when a white person uses something associated with a minority (like dreadlocks, even though whites have lone worn dreadlocks too). Why is that? You brought it up. Why?

If not basic common sense, you have the internet at your disposal. "Cultural appropriation can include using other cultures' cultural and religious traditions, fashion, symbols, language, and songs." Ie, a black James Bond or female Iron Man (things white people have no problem bitching about) and not basic human needs and functions like the airplane or - again - mathematics and international trade.

"Cultural appropriation" is an arbitrary made up concept but the concept is one race or "culture" using or "taking" another's culture. Why is a black person using a light bulb not cultural appropriation? Why is a black person getting vaccinated not "cultural appropriation". Why is a white person wearing dreadlocks wrong or offensive? It's cool that you arbitrarily decided to ignore your own dumb rules when it comes to black and cultural appropriation though.

Why is it only certain things and certain people are subject to your rules? We both know why, you're a ridiculous hypocrite espousing a ridiculous concept.

the thing is people do actually like women characters if they are originally women think of Xena the Warrior Princess or Buffy the Vampire Slayer or wonder woman, the only thing people seem to not like is just taking a character that used to be a guy and turn it into a female. That seems to be the thing that annoys people.

The term has been around for decades, btw. Some things are considered cultural appropriation and not others because the term was invented to describe the things it is describing. It is that simple. Again, way to show people don't hate TLJ because they're racist, sexist morons. You think going on an off topic debate about cultural appropriation where you deliberately misunderstand the term, call it a made up PC concept, and equate airplanes and books to dreadlocks for black people does anything to help your case?
