Good question. If they made a conscious effort to recapture the spirit of the first two Superman movies, which had comedy but took themselves fairly seriously, and dialed the hell back from BR, it might have worked. Batman '89 was dark but it still had plenty of goofy moments. I'm trying to imagine Reeve's Superman fitting into the Tim Burton Batman universe, and Keaton's Batman fitting into the Superman universe (at least of the first 2 films). Neither fits very well but it's more believable for me, having Superman in the BU, than the other way round, and obviously that makes more sense for the sake of this hypothetical question since the Batman movies came after. They could make Superman more seasoned and not necessarily grim but kind of worn by his constant battles with Luthor.

There would have to be some grit to him yes, but not so much that it would look jarring next to the Reeve Superman we've seen in previous films. It would be about getting the balance right between the two worlds which has had both those actors in them. Would have been very interesting to see Burton's take on bringing those 2 together around that time, although for the sake of finding that balance it probably wouldn't work with him directing, as his style is too unique and dark for a Reeve Superman to exist in it.

Oddly enough, Keaton and Reeve did do one movie together; it was titled Speechless (1994). Interesting watching them try to height match Keaton with Geena Davis. At times he is taller, shorter, or the sane height just in that one clip.
