Peyton Manning Fran Tarkenton John Elway I didn't notice Elway was missing until I saw this. Brady Montana Peyton Elway Rodgers honestly those final 3 are hard to argue. In my mind Rodgers passes both with a 2nd ring.

couldn't one argue Aaron Rodgers is a better QB than Brett Favre? i was going to go brady, manning, and got a little trigger happy there with favre - but thought - hmmmmmmmm..... he may not even be the greatest Packer QB of All-Time......... i guess Rodgers, Eli and Rivers fall under 'other'. interesting. interesting indeed - that psychopath who bullies his teammates Rivers isn't on the list - and i get he never won a Super Bowl - but either did Dan Marino. and Eli has 2 - gotta get a little respect and just not be lumped under 'Other' - No? This is overblown and it all has to do with how much the media likes the player. Pats fans used to complain about Peyton Manning yelling at his teammates when Brady does it just as much. I always laugh when I see Brady chewing someone out after a play or directing them harshly at the line. He's a QB, the team's coach on the field. His job is to keep these guys focused and get the offense running to its maximum potential. Hell, Brees bitched out a receiver who wasn't supposed to be in the huddle the other night, it was hilarious.

For anyone who chose Peyton Mannning (I), switch your vote to Peyton Manning (II).
The first one is the Papa John's dude.

Another opportunity to roll out this chart! Since Joe Montana won exactly zero categories when compared to Brady and Manning, I’ve replaced him with Brees. Montana is not even in the conversation, by any objective measure. Brees manages to snag one of the categories from Manning, and is a contender in two others. Brady still dominates, by a mile. No contest. | Brady | Brees | Manning | Winner | | World Championships | 5 | 1 | 2 | Brady | | Conference Championships | 8 | 1 | 4 | Brady | | Divisional Titles | 15 | 4 | 11 | Brady | | Superbowl MVP | 4 | 1 | 1 | Brady | | NFL MVP | 3 | 0 | 5 | Manning | | Pro Bowls | 13 | 11 | 14 | Manning | | First Team All Pro | 5 | 3 | 7 | Manning | | NFL Offensive Player of the Year | 2 | 2 | 2 | 3x Tie | | Passing TD Leader | 4 | 4 | 4 | 3x Tie | | Career Passer Rating | 97.6 | 97.3 | 96.5 | Brady | | Career TD/Int | 3/1 | 2.2/1 | 2/1 | Brady | | Completion % | 63.9 | 67.2 | 65.3 | Brees | | Career Win % | 77.4 | 57.5 | 68.5 | Brady | | Bogus Suspensions based on Fake Science | 1 | 0 | 0 | Brady | | Make-believe Asterisks created by Butt-hurt Fans | 4 | 0 | 0 | Brady |

It's really hard to compare Quarterbacks and players in general that played in different times because the game has changed so much today. It's such a pass heavy league today and QB's are protected so much so who's to say a guy like Montana, Young, Marino, couldn't pass for 4,500+ yards and 35 TD's a year playing today? You almost need to make comparisons per decade. We're going to see shit get even worse going forward with how the league is going as well. All these stats and records are going to get demolished by guys because of how the league is played. I mean hell, Eli Manning is 6th in passing yards just behind Marino (who once had the record and has since been passed 3 times now) and 7th in TD passes yet I don't think he's ever really been considered one of the true best at his position by the masses. People today are even arguing whether or not he's a deserving Hall of Famer.
Makes things REALLY hard to compare different era players because of it. It's practically an entirely different game today than it was in the 80's. The only things in my mind that are really comparable over the decades are Championships won and MVP's.

The best have for greatness imo is comparing players to their peers. How much better are they than those around them. That’s why I find it hard to praise many of today’s qbs. They’re playing in an era that absolutely favors them and it shows. There are like 6 or 7 current players in the top 20 all time yardage.

Exactly and it's only going to get more insane as we have seen already this year with the high passing numbers. We'll have people saying that "so in so was better than Joe Montana, just look at how many more yards and touchdown's he threw than him" and so on. It just isn't a fair comparison in my mind. Yet we live in a time where everyone has to be compared to somebody and instead of just stating that it's your opinion people need to feel some sort of validation in there opinion being correct when in the end it's still just an opinion and not a fact. I get annoyed when people use Rotten Tomato's %'s as a form of "proving" whether or not a movie is good. All that proves is a % of critics that reviewed it are of the opinion that it is good. In the end opinions are still opinions and not facts. The truth is, this question will never be solved. One person's top 3 will never be universally accepted as fact. It's just too impossible to compare for that to happen. Had everyone played in the same time frame with the same emphasis on the same rules then it could be an accurate discussion. In the end I think hall of fame voters are going to have to have a real discussion on what Quarterbacks actually get into the hall of fame when so many of them will have such inflated passing totals.

I'm tempted to pick other because pure talent wise Aaron Rodgers is the best QB I have ever seen play. However I can't justify ranking him ahead of Brady, Montana, or Manning. So Rodgers would be my 4th. If Rodgers wins another ring then he'd likely jump Peyton for me. After those 4 it becomes a real tough choice to rank guys like Brees, Favre, Young, and Marino. We got the best QB right now with the million dollar arm. The problem is not him. It's the team and the coaching from McMoron that keeps him from getting his way past due well deserved 2nd ring. So yeah, for "Other" my vote is for A-Rod. It's a crime that he is not on this list seeing how popular he is.

I did this at work in between busy assignments. I legitimately forgot to include Elway, he’s top 5 in my opinion, and I fucked up putting Peyton twice. Simple mistake. But all the others mentioned - Eli, Roethlisberger, Namath, Starr, etc., none of them are top 10 anyway.

Players today are playing in an era where defenses aren't really allowed to play defense anymore and half the plays where the QB gets hit, there's a flag on the defense. Last week, Brady got a free 15 yards and automatic 1st down because the Colts got flagged for hitting Brady. Montana used to take those same hits and was never given a free 15 yards or an automatic 1st down. That was when defenses were still allowed to play defense and hit the QB without getting flagged.

Though it is worth noting Brady, Brees and Manning play in an offense-friendly era Montana would die to play in. And the guy won 4 Super Bowls and never threw a pick in those games. Of course the counter to that is Montana played in an era where one conference was head and shoulders above the other. Just think of the career accolades of either Brady or Manning if the other one hadn't existed at the same time.
