There has to be a happy medium with larger than life films between escapism vs critical/cerebral engagement. Blockbusters are seen as escapist films more than critically engaging films. It's always been that way with blockbusters. They can be escapist films. But they shouldn't be dumb films that treat audiences like children. Once you start putting out dumbed down blockbusters, the collective film IQ of cinema goers becomes retarded and results in what we are seeing today - where audiences only go to MCU movies and not anything else because they have been brainwashed into believing that good cinema = light-hearted CGI marathons with characters in capes cracking jokes, quipping and having shared universes. No wonder everything outside this is dying at the box office. Highly disagree. Most comic book movies today are actually just fan service, forgettable CGI laden clusterbombs (and I include most blockbusters too like Jurassic Park, Star Wars, Predator). There is little that actually engages the audience on thinking or emotional level. Only Infinity War and Deadpool 2 this year have broken this barrier and attempted to tell meaningful emotional stories. The rest of recent years have fallen into the trap of being mindless throwaway ''escapist'' entertainment with very little redeemable substance; the likes of Black Panther, Antman 2, Ragnarok, Guardians of the galaxy 2, Justice League, Venom and in all likelihood Aquaman. Bathos humour, which MCU has perfected, is degrading and insults intelligence of audiences. Ragnarok is the absolute worst example of this. So many scenes where the importance of the story is downplayed for laughs. If the main characters don't care about the stakes of the film, then why should I the viewer. There is no Thor comic where hes acting like this in Ragnarok, the simple fact is the Thor franchise was waning (even though Thor 2 is the best depiction of Thor) and Feige gave it the Guardians treatment of making it a dumb comedy so it had the best opportunity to make $$$ at the box office because he knows his audience market well. It's kind of weirdly awesome that 2 people can be given the same movies to watch and have completely different opinions. Almost polar opposite from each other. I understand where you are coming from I just disagree. I tip my toe in all the comicbook properties. I like how each are different. It's no secret I lean toward MCU. So I still notice the things other people hate about the movies and I might be mildly annoyed. You like what like. It started with comics. I would say my collection was 60% Marvel, 35% DC, and 5% other. (Mom is still on my shit list for tossing them) So I am predisposed to liking Marvel. Also there is a type of inertia with the MCU. I don't feel it with other properties. With MCU I am fully invested. I would assume XMU would have that same inertia pull on you to get to the next movie. You have been watching XMU since 2000 and no matter what you are going to see the new movie. I pretty sure DCEU people have it too. It's probably enjoying the anticipation and getting to that next movie. Don't get me wrong I go and see Xmu,DCEU, and lesser comic book properties in theater. Usually opening weekend. I've only missed a hand full of Superhero movies in theater and that was in the late 80's This whole genre has me hooked. Not to misquote The Big Bang Theory, but Comic Book Movies are kind of like pizza or particle accelerators even the stinky ones, still pretty good. In the end, MCU is just slightly ahead, so yeah I probably forgive to much. I am also an easy lay when it comes to movies in general. So i forgive too much for all movies. I can find something I like in almost any movie. As always the 1 lone exception Fuck this Fucking Movie.

The previous Wolverine film wasn't as solid, wasn't Hugh Jackman's final film in the franchise and didn't follow Deadpool, which was also a huge success and paved the way for Logan's R-rating, giving some freshness to the character. And again, it was just a much better film. Most people didn’t know it was Hugh Jackman’s final film. Hence the “where is Wolverine” response to Dark Phoenix. I wouldn't say "most", quite a lot of people knew going in it would be Jackman's last time playing the character from the advertisement and interviews.

How is that possible when this movie started filming before Thor 3 came out? At least for the original cut. Maybe that's why the movie kept getting pushed back. Because they got inspired. Like with New Mutants and IT?

look at mcu fans trying so hard to forget the tone aspect, I guess the true marvel fans got to mcu fans when we told them thor Ragnarok should never have been a comedy.
fingers crossed dark phoenix is a better Ragnarok film than Ragnarok even for a kinberg movie

Your bringing up the tone aspect of the quote is starting to get repetitive. At least you vary how you present it. I wonder if it will be considered one of your classic lines, or maybe it can become calling card, a catchphrase if you will. I don't think it has the ring to it as Formersamhmd had with his: I think your tone≠inspiration comments do beat DC-Fan's story about Scarlett Johansson. You know the one. I lost track of how many times he's said it but I would guess 10 times. It starts off about how on the old IMDb boards some one disagreed with him about her hotness, ah hell he tells it better than I could: I don't think it beats DC-Fan's other catchphrase: Maybe if you keep saying it, it might be up there with his. You can't say it too much though. We wouldn't want people to think you are insecure. I think you need to be more condescending when you talk about it. Right now you are falling a bit to short. I mean you do give off the air of superiority, but you are falling short of making yourself sound like a True, Sophisticated Elite. Stop qualifying the statement by using weasel words like "I guess." I think you need to stop insinuating that XMU fans are the True Fans of Marvel. Instead, you should come right out and say it like this: You can use that word for word, I don't care. Just be blunt and say it loud.

You know good and well that even if the movie is terri-bad that you'll still say it's better than Thor 3. I'm a little slow on the uptake. You posted that as a reply to one of my post and I had no freaking clue what you meant. I thought you saying you were going to do that with me.(some of my post in your reply was gone) I was like ok what does that mean, but you were just telling me you were copying him in your message. And the truncation of my post was done by the site not you. Jesus I'm idiot.

LOL yeah, I finally got that from your last comment. It's fine it only took me 4 days and you saying it again for me to get. Like the greatest song writers of their generation, Smash Mouth, said:
Admit it you heard his voice in your head singing that line when you read it.

You know good and well that even if the movie is terri-bad that you'll still say it's better than Thor 3. geez, thor 3 shot itself in the foot by choosing to be dumb comedy when in the comics it has the same tone as xmen movies.
but then again, if I remember correctly you tried to spread the embarrassing garbage lie that a movie like thor 3 was going to make people forget about Logan? lol
really the one comic movie that everyone knew was going to get a major oscar renegotiation for art with ease and was called the greatest ever comic movie to thor 3 that was getting called dumb fun? where is the logic bud47? poor mcu fans iron man 1 stood a better chance than thor 3 in 2008 during TDK. at least iron man 1 was not a joke.
It might be wise not to bring up thor 3 again, yes, dark phoenix is already the superior film because the tone is not a joke. why else are mcu fans scared of it?
thor 3 was an embarrassment, really how can you defend the bullshit.

Never said Thor 3 would make people forget about Logan. So, no, you did not remember correctly. What I said was that Logan was forgotten to the point you can't remember which year it came out without looking it up. Was it 2014? I don't know...
"Oscar renegotiation"?
How can I defend Thor 3? Easily. Would watch it on repeat over watching Logan a 3rd time. Depression is a hell of a drug.

yawn...speed more bs lies about your own words.
notice you and you only had the opinion of not forgetting what year logan came out and yes, you did say thor jorknock will make people forget. FAIL.
The rest of the world did not forget. you don't forget good art. it's unatural.
what is with you and dates bud47? the two greatest comic masterpieces (logan and tdk) and you have forgotten their year dates? is it because of mcu inferiority?
Back to thor, kind of sad that even the man who was partially responsible for X3 thinks Thor actually sucks. there was no hope for that film but then again X3 is better than Thor 3.

Thatguy, formershamd, hobowar...these mcu fans don't read comics. they are so disney dumbed down. the called logan depressing. um, since it was based also on the death of wolverine comics, This is very accurate to the comics Ah, and thatguy wonders why we say mcu movies are childish garbage, he thinks depression is not a thing. he want brainfart mcu jokes.Spoilers for those who have not read dark phoenix, that was depressing too. jean dies like logan Tone.Tone. Tone. Tone. if you want jokes watch MCU movies and leave your brain at the door.

Nope never said that. I think you are merging a bunch of us together.
Never said anything about The Dark Knight. Way better than any X-men movie. Would gladly watch that movie over and over again. Not a depressing movie. Even with Rachel's death and knowing that Heath Ledger died in real life. Just an overall better movie than all the X-men movies.
And Kinberg never said that Thor 3 sucks. Saying that X-men will not have the same tone as Thor 3 does not mean that he is saying it sucks. Movies have different tones. Well, not the X-men movies. Thank God for Deadpool. There are loads of movies with a comedic tone way better than the X-men movies. It's about craftsmanship. X-men does not have that craftsmanship. It has/had Singer. You are just upset that people like Thor 3 better than 90% of the X-men movies.

the problem with lies, it creates a lot of inconsistencies. TDK was just as depressing, infact the depression carried on to much of TDKR because in TDKR we see bruce depressed for 8 years counting due to the events of TDK. He was so depressed he stopped been Batman. FOR FREAKING 8 YEARS. he was so depressed Alfred left him. LMAO.
no, you will rather not watch TDK again, if you did you would know it came out in 2008 and did not need a shooting for publicity and know the story properly, you dont. You just hate logan more since logan is a non mcu movie so that hurts mcu more than TDK. Is TDK better than Logan? by 50%. but we know the mcu fans trick. A DC movie called a masterpiece is less embarrassing to them than a non MCU Marvel movie getting called a masterpieces aka Logan. TDK is better logan and logan is better than TDK. that was why logan is the only film more than half the majority have said is better than TDK and became the closest thing we got to best picture. that is fact. something all comic fans celebrated minus MCU fans.
X-Men has Logan, DC has TDK both are equal. what does MCU have? NOTHING. Also we remember their directors who made both movies to be anti mcu movies and admitted it?
Kinberg indirectly admitted thor 3 sucks, you are so slow. that was the reason he bashed the tone in the friendliest of ways. don't be mad, he is only saying what everyone said, afterall we all did say the movie sucks because it should not have been a STUPID comedy.
Lmao, tdk was not as depressing, infact, TDK was the next movie that pulled the villain kind of wins and the heroes returns to a life of somber, all hated and still feared by the public. the first movie that did so was X2.
this is depressing for mcu standards
and so is this
facts dont lie.
Poor mcu fans, the award moment when a marvel movie (logan) is more hurtful to mcu than a DC movie (tdk) ouch. the thing with xmen and dc, they are not scared to make serious movies with adult content. MCU cant.

Ah X2, the greatest comic book drama film at that point before TDK topped it and Logan topped TDK. Now let's wait for The Joker film to top Logan or Spielberg's Blackhawk.
meanwhile mcu will still be making idiotic brianfart CHILDISH comedies movies like thor jokenock and GOTG. what a waste.
