This topic & poll was inspired, of course, by Feologild's topic & poll. However, I felt that this one would be more appropriate for this message forum (I think Feologild really should have put his in the politics or another message forum, rather than this one.

I was initially tempted to answer "It's Values" but then thought of what use are those values if majority of religious people do not adhere to them or the values are in some way present in other religions or secular philosophies as well?
I chose the last answer. I believe religions are not really great for everyone even though they can bring good in many individuals. But it is usually combination of many things and not just one particular thing that would make a religion good for certain individuals. Tolerance though would be a very important value.

If the majority of the adherents do not live up to those values, then its their own personal failings (ditto with the "country poll"). As you noted, Tolerance is a very good value to have, but, not everyone can or even is, tolerant.

I was stuck between values and teachings, so I voted for teachings.

I was stuck between values and teachings, so I voted for teachings. Yeah, sometimes that's what happens with polls, when we create them.

It's Truth. Christianity, and more specifically Catholicism, is the truth as it was basically started by Jesus Christ, who is God (i.e. The Holy Trinity (Father/Son(Jesus Christ)/Holy Spirit)), who put Peter as the first pope and then it went down through the generations til today... www.newadvent.org/cathen/12272b.htm (list of popes) Catholicism is not the easiest religion to follow but it's the truth...

Shamrocks. Just kidding. Actually I think an important part of a religion is its buildings. I know people often say that is the wrong focus. The building is just a material necessity. Not everyone in the building is very religious. Some people not in the building nevertheless follow the teachings especially well, except maybe the rule about going to the building. I understand all that and agree in principle. I still think the building says a lot about the people who built it. Synagogues Cathedrals Angkor Wat Grand Mosque

Are you still deciding on your membership into the Westboro Baptist Chruch?

In fact, in a lot of cases, a person has to make great sacrifices of themselves, in order to do something really great. Is the sacrifice born out of a humbling nature— like the fable of Christ—and not born out of a sense of personal superiority over others, with self-serving agendas and conditions and expectations placed on it— like the Catholic Church.
