I know that you're not in the hurricane's direct path. But, such a wide spread storm must be giving you some pretty heavy weather.
Thinking about you, WKD, and those WKs.

We got nothing from the storm but the air was very "heavy" when I went outside. The hotels and motels in the Mobile area were full to capacity with people from the Panhandle. We have a friend in Panama City Beach who decided to ride out the storm, we haven't heard from her yet. She's my age (69) but is very adventuresome, she just got back from white water rafting out West. I feel like a wimp. The brother of one of the women WKD works with was in his house in Panama City when his roof was ripped off, he's ok but he got 5 feet of water in his house. There was storm surge along the coast and parts of Dauphin Island were flooded. I don't think anyone expected this to be such a fierce storm, luckily its fast moving - that's probably why we got nothing from it. Thanks.

Glad to hear that you're okay, WKM.
mr sunshine's half-sister lives in Panama City with her family. They evacuated and are okay. They've seen an aerial view of their house and it's still standing, but they don't know if there's any damage. They can't go back home yet, since there's no power, no water and no gas to get there. I can't imagine the work that it will take to get everything back to normal, if it ever will.

We still don't know if the lady we knew made it or not. She was going to ride it out in her tiny apartment ( Seaside Apartments on Front Beach Rd) which was built in 1960 so it wasn't up to code. The Seaside Apartments were efficiency apartments right across the road from the beach so I'm sure it was wiped out. I hope she decided to evacuate in the end, time will tell. I imagine many people who stayed were washed out to sea. This hurricane gained strength so fast that by the time people realized how powerful it was, they did not have time to plan their evacuation. The homes that are still standing are the ones that were newer and built to code. Our house is built to withstand 160 mph winds, it was built in 2006 - 2007. I feel bad for all those people and all the little animals that lost their lives and homes.
