Anyone watch that show?
I'm liking it, on season two now.
Father Brown is a good priest, he has not molested a single person so far in the series.

I’ve seen a few episodes: one with race cars (and the gas line cut, something like that?), one with a weird alibi having to do with a plague doctor dummy, and one with a secret passageway that solved a locked-room mystery (which, as Carr wrote, is always a cheat). It’s OK. Mark Williams is by far the best part, especially as the supporting cast of screeching busybodies are dreadful. Have you read Chesterton’s original Fr. Brown short stories (which are nothing like the show), OldSamVimes? They’re sublime—possibly the best detective stories ever written.

I really like Father Brown its a good show.
But one thing that annoys me is that all the inspectors are so damn stupid and completely unqualified to be in the police. Especially Inspector Mallory and Inspector Sullivan, the first one Inspector Valentine was not that bad. I mean i do understand why its like that, its to show that Father Brown is a lot smarter than the inspectors but i think it could have been done like in Ms Marple and Poirot where Marple and Poirot are more intelligent than the inspectors but the inspectors are not portray as utter morons who are not qualified to be a police officer. I mean Chief inspector Japp is not as smart as Poirot but everybody can see that he has the qualifications to be a police officer. When i see Japp i see a police man, when i see Mallory or Sullivan i see a moron who should find a new job.
I am sorry i went on rant.

Feologild Oakes for once, I agree with one of your rants The policemen on Father Brown are impossibly thick and stubborn instead of accepting that Brown is always right in the long run and actively seeking his help on cases.

That was what the sheriff in Murder, She Wrote was like: He would always mess up on who the guilty party was, & Jessica Fletcher - who's only real experience in studying crime is writing her murder mystery books - would always solve the crime.

clusium But did Sheriff Tupper tell Jessica to back off and get out and quit bothering him ? That's what "the law" in Father Brown does over and over while they stumble stupidly from non-clue to non-clue. Tupper would ask for help, not insult the helper.

I was looking for a detective series to read, I've never gotten into the genre.
