Catman prefers fresh.
On the other hand, it did not work out so well for young Taeko in Omohide poro poro. Then again, that was back in 1966 when imported fresh fruit was difficult to obtain in Japan.

Catman What, pray tell, happened to young Taeko in Omohide poro poro ? The pineapple, since it was imported, had been picked green, and although the family waited several days after her father purchased it, when they sliced it (properly, following directions Taeko's sister found in a book), the pineapple was tough and flavorless. Although no one asked her to, Taeko forced herself to eat several slices since she had been the one who wanted to pineapple so much. After that, she stuck to bananas!

Catman Poor Taeko . Bananas are so much simpler in the long run. I like fresh pineapple but never can tell whether it's ripe or not... my go to buffet always has it so I let them decide when it's ready to eat and they have always been right !

I may be exiled for this, but…I don’t like pineapple. There is a place on this earth shattering, world's future determining poll for such as you, M. Nalkarj ! BUT Not even upside down in a cake ?
<oh, man.. drooling again !> sorry 'bout that !

<oh, man.. drooling again !> sorry 'bout that ! Hm! I don’t think I ever even tried upside-down pineapple cake… But I’ve definitely eaten pineapple, I just get that prickly/burning sensation when I eat it, and for some reason it irritates me more than it irritates anyone else in my family.

Nalkarj You might want to poll in the "allergic to it" category rather than ticking the "hate it - yuck " box.
Upside down cake is usually made with canned pineapple and LOTS of sweetener .. mighty kill the pricky~burny effect. Some fresh and unsweetened pineapple does do that especially if it isn't quite ripe.

Speaking of allergic to pineapple: Malcom Reed (played by Dominic Keating) on Star Trek: Enterprise considered pineapple his favorite food even though he was allergic to it.
