It's not a disconnect. It absolutely stands to reason that if you find the jokes upsetting, it must be because there's an uncomfortable truth behind them. don't find the jokes funny either but if you think they're grounds enough for Disney's actions, I don't know what to say. Lighten up?
Bro, if you took all my of my worst mistakes and put them on one page I'd look pretty bad too. Take any actor or athlete and put all their bloopers in one video with nothing else and of course they'll look bad. That page with all his Tweets in it is a highlight reel of outdated material.
I'm not American either. Dude, I criticize the MCU and Star Wars and I'm not Republican. I'm talking about Mike Cernovich's credibility. He pointed the finger and some of the least likely people I ever thought ran towards it.
Then we'll never agree so it's best to agree to disagree.
If there's nothing to allege then don't you think it's an overreaction? Disney will sell out anybody to protect themselves, right or wrong. But this idea that they're a family company. They're a corporation like any other. They make dizzying amounts of money and if you play ball they'll make you rich; get in their way and they'll stomp you out. Who cares that they're family entertainment? It's an image, and a layer of protection they don't deserve. I'm not against Disney but I'm not about to pretend their friendly because Mickey Mouse is their logo.
Yeah I don't know what that's supposed to be. I'm saying despite disagreeing on this subject it doesn't mean we can't get along I get '...'. What is that?
I really don't think what I'm saying is coming across right. It's been 2-3 months and in all the discussions I've had, the only people I've ever seen take these jokes serious are you and Tristan_Incarnate. You're the only two I've ever met who didn't think Disney firing James Gunn was ridiculous.

"Right" is a point of view, Anakin. I can see why they weighed the sick shit he wrote as enough of a liability to offset the perceived gains from his involvement with Guardians 3. I've also consistently expressed my disappointment about the fact that this will ultimately net out with a lesser movie for fans of the Guardians series, and I'm one of 'em. (Same goes, incidentally, for Roseanne being let go. I was really enjoying the new episodes and prolly won't even bother checking out The Connors.) The Gunn story was gaining enough traction that it's not absurd to me that they canned him. This was, mind you, a business decision rather than a primarily creative one. It's not "circumstantial evidence" of anything because he's not on trial, nor was he ostensibly fired for actually being a pedophile. I don't know why this is so tough for people defending the dude; even if YOU didn't find what he wrote offensive in and of itself, you really and truly and for serious can't even fathom why THE WALT DISNEY COMPANY™ wouldn't want to be associated with him?! It was a few months ago. I would have thought if there were any substance to these jokes that it would have caught more fire by now, but it's been nothing but petitions asking him to come back. Which he shouldn't, by the way. There's no walking back being fired, but it seems to me like the only people with whom it caught fire was Disney themselves.
I've seen you on the Politics board too, you seem to be on the less right-wing less Republican side of things (thumbs up from me, on a personal note) but the guy who went after Gunn is more the Alex Jones/Rush Limbaugh type if misinformation spreader. The question sometimes in my head is are you people all Republicans?
I like this board because I just assumed I'd find people with similar interests. If you like, or even has so much as an opinion on the MCU, my gamble is you also might like Star Wars, Star Trek, maybe Doctor Who, maybe Avatar and The Legend of Korra, DC and comics in general, a handful of Terminators, Aliens and Predators; people with higher thresholds for what's weird and unconventional.
Suffice to say, as I've said before, I understand Disney's decision to react more than I understand people like us, this board and the people on it buying it. It's a little easier to understand Walt Disney not wanting the association now because conversing here has shown me there are people who take it seriously, yourselves, and if Disney's decision keeps you on board then the decision will have been vindicated in some way.
I see his firing as the failure of cooler heads prevailing. A few powerful people have toppled because allegations like this lead to investigations and investigations lead to Kevin Spacey and Harvey Weinstein. Based on his jokes, I just can't in good conscience believe James Gunn is in league with those guys. I think if there were something remotely credible, DC wouldn't go near him. I sure wouldn't. If I thought there was even the slightest chance there was truth to it, my respect for the man would turn to dust like it was in Infinity War. Chalk it up to human intuition but I just don't feel that spark.
My surprise not withstanding, I was clearly wrong about it not being taken seriously outside of Disney headquarters. I found their lack of faith disturbing, but that doesn't mean we all can't get along.
To answer your question, no I'm not Republican. If I may drop out of character for a bit I actually fucking despise both the Republican and Democratic parties.

I don't get what's to discuss.
Gun is a POS. His tweets are POS. His fans are POS.
He got fired. His fans cry rivers.
Fucking end of.

James Gunn made a joke, many years ago, and the worthless SJW liberal snowflakes couldn't handle it as they often can't so they fired him. But Marvel's stupidity and knee jerk reacting is DC's gain. Gunn made two good movies that made serious cash and now he might give DC the boost it needs. By the by, if Disney is such a family company then I'm sure the higher ups and big wigs there won't mind having their skeletons dragged out of the closet. Surely they've never made off color jokes or done anything even remotely unscrupulous in their lives. www.proboards.com/user-guide/profile-preferences/deleting-account

Someone in the kind of position that Gunn was in should know better than to make the tweets he did out in the public.
Most average joes on the street would know better than to make such tweets to a couple of people they know.
I liked the Guardians of the Galaxy movies but he was obviously gonna be let go. There was no real other alternative from a company like Disney.

The lesson he and we should learn is you have material online you think is objectionable just delete it. You never know when it might come back to disqualify you from a job.

NO, the lesson to learn is if eg (i) cum on little children makes you "extremely happy", or if (ii) you hope that you can "break-in" your baby daughter anally before she gets married, or if (iii) "Eagle snatches kid" videos are what you call it when you "get lucky", you should URGENTLY heed your own advise and "GO TO THERAPIE" instead of praising NAMBLA and convicted pedos and instead of continuing tweeting depravities wile being employed by a family company like Disney.

I will be happy to, hobowart dear. Could you kindly provide us with the "far worse than dumb jokes" material you have….? I am exited as to what according to you beats pedophilic, misogynistic and rapist videos, tweets and pictures…

My lesson was better. I looked up his tweets and couldn't find any past 2011. You're acting like these tweets were all from this week. He should have definitely deleted them. Stopping was a good step for his career, but they exist in cyberspace so apparently growing up and ditching the jokes wasn't good enough. Next time.

I give you a few of Gunn's tweets. Can you spot one "post 2011? If you find it you win the 2018 Leto-tweets.

No, just practical. They were online for years and you didn't care. If he had deleted them back then, they would only exist in the memories of the people who saw them, which doesn't include you so you would have been fine.
No consequence to me.
Can you just tell me. All the ones I can see the dates of are 2008/2009 and the rest I can read but the dates are too small to see.
I think I see a couple of 2012's which I mentioned earlier in the thread as the most recent of any that I've read about. Is that it? Is that your ace in the hole, that 2011 is wrong because there's some from 2012? It's 2018 dude. How are you this compromised over tweets this old?
