I ate snails today at an Asian buffet at Eastridge mall in San Jose California. They tasted like scallops,... or calamari.

Yes, at La Bonne Soupe in New York. Although, as a French friend told me once, “it’s not the snails you liked, it’s the butter.”

We always knew when BatBrother had been at some antsy smantzy French restaurant and had eaten snails .. he REEKED of Garlic. I Had soem once and was not impressed ! When I was with my cousin this weekend in Providence, she made pizza for dinner Friday night and had me cut up the garlic. Guess what I still reek of? That stuff… Whew! And her father, Uncle Save-a-Coin, loves it! I did like snails when I had them in Manhattan, but as my friend said it was probably the butter more than anything.

Nalkarj Lemon juice and salt rubbed on your hands might make you a tad less odoriferous garlic-wise ! Bro-Bat ate so much garlic that he could still be smelled (smelt ?) a few days later … they say the only effective defense against the smell is to eat some yourself !

Thanks for the trick—Bat-Bro and Uncle Save-a-Coin would get on famously!

Many times. I like them. In garlic butter with some melted cheese.

I believe I ate them, Chinese style, back in the 70s.
They were good, but too much effort.

When I was in high school, my French class spent one class preparing and consuming escargots...
I was the only one who would not try any, no matter how much I was pressured to.
I have not regretted my decision for a moment since.

Thirty-odd years ago. But they were sea snails, not the garden variety.

So howcome why do people eat snails but not slugs ? Because some who do it on a dare end up paralyzed! Actually some snails can do that too, so don't eat any of that stuff you find in the garden. They can crawl through rat poo, pick up rat lungworm and fuck you up bad.

Can imagine the first person to eat a snail Hmmmm .. This looks yucky. Maybe it tastes better than it looks ! Gulp. OK ... next one... the shell comes OFF before I eat it ! Not bad. Maybe some butter and cooking it ? MUCH Better ... where's the garlic ?
