“Predestination” is the ultimate time travel mind @&#% film. I’ve watched “Predestination” five times now and I think, maybe, I have untangled all of the implications and paradoxes that, as one character says, can’t be paradoctored. “Predestination” is the ultimate Bootstrap Paradox with paradoxes within paradoxes, leading to a stunning conclusion.
Another major reason for recommending this film is the Australian actress Sarah Snook, who gives a daring tightrope walk of a performance. The bravura performance she turns in is the sort of thing that could have backfired into a laughable failure. But she never takes a single misstep. She is just astonishing. Snook won Best Actress at the Australian Academy Awards for “Predestination,” and should have had more recognition in the U.S.
This is a thriller that requires your full attention. It is not a popcorn flick. If you give that attention, you will be greatly rewarded.
