“The Man From Nowhere” (2010) is a great choice. Near the end, when the head gangster asks the Man, “Who is this girl to you?” and he answers, “She is my next-door neighbor” I knew I was going to love this movie forever. It is also my choice for Best South Korean film.
“Memories of Murder” is very haunting and a worthy First Place. The South Korean film industry has been doing such wonderful and consistent work over the last 20 years or so.

Memories of Murder by far. That's one of my favorite movies, ever. I dislike many things about Asian culture, but they can make some good movies. Train to Busan was really good, too.

Mai wei (2011)
Inspired by a true story. During WWII a South Korean man is conscripted into the Japanese army. He's captured by the Soviets and later thrown into the line before Moscow. He's then captured by the Germans who assign him to Normandy where he's later captured by the Americans.
The film has possibly the only known depiction of one of the battles of the Khalkhin Gol near Mongolia, 1939. It's a vicious fight featuring Japanese suicide battalions vs. a seemingly endless supply of Soviet tanks.
