Pick up to 12.
In this condensed format, I didn't use the home front films, but mostly on front lines and areas "being" occupied. Thus, Deer Hunter and Casablanca are left out. I considered African Queen, but perhaps that goes into another poll, too. Many were left out.

Where the heck are " THE LONGEST DAY", " THE GREAT ESCAPE", " FULL METAL JACKET", and " SAVING PRIVATE RYAN" in the Poll ? Fair enough question. The Longest Day is an oversight, as it would have been representative of the huge all star cast. The closest film in the list to the huge all star cast is Battle of the Bulge. Probably should have left off Bulge to put in the definitive huge all star cast war film. Great Escape. Included the main POW film, at least the landmark one. Didn't think I needed more than one. If I did include a second, Hart's War would have given the list more diversity. Great Escape was more of a podium for big name stars, or at least it came across that way. It was tough to include. Full Metal Jacket and Private Ryan, being modern war films, would be good picks. Not many people have seen Full Metal Jacket, although many on IMDB have. It's still pretty obscure. Private Ryan is a throwback to the old war films, and would be a good one to list, but there are none on the list that could be tossed out, due to keeping diversity on the list.

Patton The Bridge on the River Kwai A Bridge Too Far Ice Cold in Alex Glory
Heaps of good ones there, and quite a few I haven't seen, but I just voted top 5 because they are great.
Run Silent, Run Deep, King Rat and Guns of Navarone are worth a mention too.

I think you mean "favorite war film that drystyx likes"?
Which probably explains the dozen or so hum drum non starters included.

1. Tuntematon sotilas (2017) 2. 300 3. Der Untergang Hopefully, you didn't miss the third one you mention from my list. I have it under the American title of OGRE. That's the title I watched it under. I will also use this space to reply to Biker's whining, instead of wasting a post for him. There are plenty of war movies I don't care for on this list, a few I don't even like. I list a cross section of films. I probably should have listed "300" since its special style isn't represented on my list. One of the ones I'll apologize for.

Not sure what your parameters are, but your list seems.... off. You think Full Metal Jacket is less well known/seen than at least half the titles on your list? Anyway some titles that should have been considered (in no particular order):
A Midnight Clear Apocalypse Now Full Metal Jacket Empire Of The Sun Grave Of The Fireflies The Thin Red Line Run Silent Run Deep The Great Escape Inglourious Basterds Doctor Zhivago Saving Private Ryan Black Hawk Down Lawrence Of Arabia MASH Paths Of Glory The Dirty Dozen The Longest Day The Battle Of Algiers Au Revoir Les Enfants Grand Illusion The Guns Of Navarone American Sniper Rome, Open City
