Where the heck are " THE LONGEST DAY", " THE GREAT ESCAPE", " FULL METAL JACKET", and " SAVING PRIVATE RYAN" in the Poll ? Fair enough question. The Longest Day is an oversight, as it would have been representative of the huge all star cast. The closest film in the list to the huge all star cast is Battle of the Bulge. Probably should have left off Bulge to put in the definitive huge all star cast war film. Great Escape. Included the main POW film, at least the landmark one. Didn't think I needed more than one. If I did include a second, Hart's War would have given the list more diversity. Great Escape was more of a podium for big name stars, or at least it came across that way. It was tough to include. Full Metal Jacket and Private Ryan, being modern war films, would be good picks. Not many people have seen Full Metal Jacket, although many on IMDB have. It's still pretty obscure. Private Ryan is a throwback to the old war films, and would be a good one to list, but there are none on the list that could be tossed out, due to keeping diversity on the list. Full Metal Jacket is not obscure at all, it's an incredibly well known film. R Lee Erme's drill sgt character is on of the most famous in movie history and one of the most parodied. FMJ is much much much more well known than many films on your list.

The Enemy Below (1957) should be on this list.

A couple more: Breaker Morant and Soldier Of Orange.
I notice someone has come and voted for many of the movies that had 0 votes.

Not sure what your parameters are, but your list seems.... off. You think Full Metal Jacket is less well known/seen than at least half the titles on your list? Anyway some titles that should have been considered (in no particular order): A Midnight Clear Apocalypse Now Full Metal Jacket Empire Of The Sun Grave Of The Fireflies The Thin Red Line Run Silent Run Deep The Great Escape Inglourious Basterds Doctor Zhivago Saving Private Ryan Black Hawk Down Lawrence Of Arabia MASH Paths Of Glory The Dirty Dozen The Longest Day The Battle Of Algiers Au Revoir Les Enfants Grand Illusion The Guns Of Navarone American Sniper Rome, Open City A few of those I had no room for. Longest Day, Dirty Dozen, Guns of Navarone, wasn't sure which ones to leave off. Figured I had enough like these. Mash and Catch 22, I believe only one needed inclusion. Catch 22 was less garbled, better edited, more credible characters by any definitions, got the nod. Rome Open City was one I really thought hard about including. In the end, I decided it was more of an occupation movie, which is why I left out Casablanca, and not so much a war movie. The difference between the category of Occupation in ROME OPEN CITY and CASABLANCA and the occupation of NORTHERN STAR and COME AND SEE was the active process of occupation in the latter duo, while the preceding duo was more of a "status quo" of already being occupied. Here, I admit it was judgment alone that made the decision that the latter were war movies, while the first duo didn't qualify. In such a judgment call, I admit that there is room for argument. It appears many consider the "status quo of occupation" as being war. In my definition of a "war" movie, there is active war in the forefront, not the backdrop, and constitute most of the story. Hence, movies like THE DEER HUNTER, HOW THE WEST WAS WON, DOCTOR ZHIVAGO don't constitute my definition of war films. Oversights include A MIDNIGHT CLEAR, LAWRENCE OF ARABIA, and SAVING PRIVATE RYAN. Still, hard to say what to leave out to accommodate these three. INGLORIOUS BASTARDS is an interesting case. It's clearly a fantasy film of war. A young Jewish girl running from a Nazi obviously fantasizing while running, her fantasy being the rest of the movie. Tough to include on a limited list. Impossible on a short list. PATHS OF GLORY is more of a trial movie. It is "war", but that's a second classification, just as Western is a second classification for the comedies BLAZING SADDLES and CAT BALLOU. In such a case, where some films are left out, such "second classification" films are left out. The "classic" status of PATHS OF GLORY is in "crime and punishment", or perhaps even "noire", not "war" IMO. Again, if the list size doubles, it's probably included.
