Robocop (1987) and Robocop (2014) Total Recall (1990) and Total Recall (2012) Some fucking genius with the idea of PG-13 remakes of films not especially subtle in their R-Rating.

Malick's remake of The Thin Red Line is vastly superior to the original. The same can be said of Huston's remake of The Maltese Falcon.

The Thing from another world (1951) and The Thing (2011). The 2011 movie is a prequel to the 1982 movie.

Romeo and Juliet (1968) and Romeo & Juliet (2013) (I know there were versions before 1968, but I'm focusing on these 2 versions.)
1968 is perfection. 2013 got it all wrong from day one by casting Hailee Steinfeld. (Douglas Booth was fine.)

I like Stallone, but Get Carter was much better when done by Michael Caine.
I have to agree with the Fog. Also, Rob Zombie's Halloween remake was a drastic drop in quality from the original.

The Thing from another world (1951) and The Thing (2011). The 2011 movie is a prequel to the 1982 movie. I know, I have seen all three movies, so what's your edge?
In the 1951 movie they find the flying saucer and dig up the Thing. In the 2011 movie they find the flying saucer and dig up the Thing. In both cases, things go wrong when the ice melt and the Thing starts moving around.
Somehow I fail to see what I have said that was corrected by your statement. The thread is about remakes vs originals, not prequels or sequels. Are you arguing that a movie can't be a sequel and a remake at the same time?

Are you arguing that a movie can't be a sequel and a remake at the same time? I know that THE THING 2011 re-cycles the plot to the point where it feels like a remake (t's almost like THE HANGOVER PART II minus the self-awareness). However, a movie can't be both things like you suggested. One takes place in the same continuity as the original; the other one doesn't. One has the same cast; the other one doesn't.

There are A LOT of remakes the are laughable when compared to the originals, but Poltergeist is the most worthless remake I have ever seen.
Poltergeist doesn't even manage to be amusing in it's badness.

The Omen (1976) & The Omen (2006) You have actually mentioned a rare example of a remake and original that I dislike equally.
