Apart from a pot of soup I made a big batch of ginger snaps and my first fruitcake of the year. The fruitcake has been drenched with rum and wrapped in cheesecloth until Christmas. I ate a few crumbs that fell off and oh my word, it's good.

It's getting near the time when I get started on my holiday baking. I love this time of year!

I don't bake but I'm a willing volunteer to try homemade baked goods.

What percentage of the total amount of rum that you used went into the baked cake and what percentage went to the baker?

I use brandy-it's my grandmum's recipe, & one of the few my mum made. I recall growing up, she would sometimes forget & we would find these wrapped loaves in the top of the front hall closet(has to be a dark space). You could open them up & get drunk just smelling them. My brothers would then chow down.

I had a colleague who made Bourbon Balls (cookies), during the holiday season. That, too, was heady stuff. And, the Accounting Department ... on the 5th of 7 floors ... always hosted an Egg Nog party on Christmas Eve. You could smell the Brandy, if you were anywhere near the elevator.

Fair question. About half a cup into and onto the cake and one jigger for the hardworking baker.
