Stephen Boyd was a very good-looking guy. And he was definitely gay. He was interviewed in the movie "Celluloid Closet". Boyd talks about how during the making of "Ben Hur", Charlton Heston had no clue as to the homosexual subtext of the relationship betwen his character and Boyd's.
