Why is it that no matter where the water bowl is placed, the cat has to move it a half inch before taking a drink?

They push the bowl to observe the movement of the water. It's their way of verifying the contents inside. For example, muddy water would move with a greater viscosity.

Why is it that no matter where the water bowl is placed, the cat has to move it a half inch before taking a drink? Well, YOU'RE a cat. You tell US!
And while you're at it explain to me why it is that every time I go to the bathroom my cats have to follow me in there? And why are they sleeping in the sink so I cant wash my hands? And last but not least, why wont they scoop their own fucking litter?! I got one shits like a grown ass man! Geez!

CatmanUnderfoot will put his paw in the water before he drinks. No idea what he is testing for. Viscosity maybe ? Not so bad in the summer but he does that in the winter and then goes out in the snow with a wet foot.

What are your thoughts on that?

Nora Because: 1) they have had their fill of water from sources A,B,and D 2) MOST importantly Because they are cats.

What are your thoughts on that? Because the more intelligent cats can tell the bowl is meant for "cats". they think of themselves as equal to humans, some even think humans are just larger, furless versions of themselves. in any case, some make the choice to assert themselves as equals by mimicing humans or otherwise making use of instruments intended (by humans of course) to be only for humans and not for cats.
