My biggest issue with video game, superhero, or any fan-casting is that people spend more time dreaming of their fan favorite that they don't have any optimism about who really got the part(s).
This gal wasn't my first pick for Lara Croft but I did some research - Man from U.N.C.L.E , Jason Bourne , Ex Machina. And I have to say I was mostly pleased (Bourne lacked good writing for her part but still watchable).
That being said maybe if you haven't already check out U.N.C.L.E and Ex Machina, great performances and shows her range and her beauty. If you've already seen them and still aren't sold - well....that sucks I would suggest ignoring the movie all together unless of course you are the type that likes bashing movies you never plan on giving a chance.

Fan casting isn't any worse than the award winner bandwagon they've gone for here.

the Tomb Raider movies were god awful. I have no faith in video game adaptations being any good.

I mean , how are they different from comic book adaptations? Which as we all know are , by now, very well made for the moast part.

agentblueI think some factors are probably the companies involved in the production and in some strange way the "street cred" that video games still have when it comes to film adaptations. The fact that video games are propelled by interactivity might also be a contributing factor, in the sense that film makers might find it hard to adapt the story flow of a video game to a non-interactive narrative. I don't see why really, but it sounds plausible to me at least.

I always thought its cuz they are telling a story that is meant to be played but you are watching it and that takes a lot of the fun out of it.
