Watched this at a friend's birthday party back in the 80's. None of the kids there were prepared for that, at all! Some of us were confused to whether or not Bob Geldof was the lead singer of Pink Floyd or not, others were taken aback by people being made into ground beef. It was a real record scratch moment for some.

Nice write up, but I thought Alan Parker just missed making a fantastic movie out of the LP's concept. The LP was already one of my favorites when the movie came out, and still one of my most listened to LP. I was somewhat disappointed by the movie. Some part worked, and some didn't. I like the beginning war scene prelude, the hotel scene with the hooker played by Jenny Wright, and the ending courtroom cartoon. I wasn't sure of what to make of the meat grinder scene, and some of the surrealistic inserts. Like one of the critic said, it was just one long music video instead of a musical movie. I did not like how they could not find a spot for "Hey You", the song the summarized the tone of the story.

An opera based on “The Wall” premiered in Montreal. The U.S. premiere was with the Cincinnatti Opera this past summer. Here is an advance notice from Rolling Stone Magazine:
