I think Dunaway's performance as Joan Crawford is the only performance where I am truly conflicted. It's a little difficult to be absolutely certain whether the performance is brilliant or godawful. It's a puzzle.
I guess, though, that I am going to have to say that I admire the performance and call it gutsy and no holds barred and certainly engaging. It's acting on a level that I've never seen before. It's easy to say that she overacted, but at the same time, you cannot say that Dunaway did not put all her feeling into the role. I think the part touched some nerves in the actress.
What do you think?

More towards no holds barred brilliance for me.
