Pierce Brosnan is the 'Bond' for me, he has the style, the charm, the sense of humor, he can pull off the 'tough guy' stuff (Roger Moore- having his good points, like the classic 10 'Spy Who Loved Me'(1977) does not project the physical presence that does justice to fight scenes.
Sean Connery is second, being a huge fan- think his bond has lost some of it's edginess over the years. It's that just Brosnan is still 'Modern' enough to resonate with the today's viewing audience and Connery is like reading a great book. It is extremely close for me and I pick Brosnan because those are the one's that I like to re-watch the most.
Daniel Craig- kinda ruined 'James Bond' and turned him into a killer for hire- never got his take on Bond- 21st century, the marketers keep telling me?
The rest are just role fillers.

I agree a lot with ypu. Brosnan is my mental image of Bond, Connery is just legendary. I did not like Craig, not... one... bit. "Grounding" Bond made him look more like Bourne. I will defend Timothy Dalton because "The Living Daylights" is on my personal Top 5 Bond movies.

Sean Connery, because you just can't beat the genuine article. Brosnan would be a second pick.

1. Connery 2. Moore 3. Dalton 4. Brosnan
Not the fault of Brosnan but they made the Bond films super cheesy and over the top action wise during his run and that is saying something. I didn't get into Daniel Craig playing Bond at all and I felt they went the extreme opposite of the Brosnan films.

I say Brosnan only because I only watched the ones with Brosnan and Craig. GoldenEye 007 is where it all started for me. I probably started playing the game before watching the movie. I can't remember.

My thoughts on them all:
Connery is the best Bond all round, believable as a soldier and charismatic/witty enough to be a spy. Roger Moore was the comedy Bond, he was good but not too believable as a guy who could knock the **** out of someone. Timothy Dalton was the most realistic Bond. He seemed like a soldier who was insane enough to have got himself into the SAS, the sort of guy who'd throw himself on a landmine to protect his squadmates. Daniel Craig, hmmm good all around.. but lacking in the charisma which made Connery and Moore so beloved. Pierce Brosnan I liked a lot, second best to Connery in my opinion. He was the smug but likeable Bond you'd want on your side in a gunfight.

Die Another Day is my favorite out of the eight Brosnan and Craig films. One day, I think I'm going to go on a binge and watch two movies from each actor. Most likely the first and last or the best rated. I'll most likely watch more based on the movie title and the ones I heard the most about. I should then be able to give a better opinion on who I think the best Bond is. Others commented on this so I just wanted to say I'm also one of the many who couldn't get into Craig playing Bond. I didn't watch Spectre in theaters and when I was finally able to watch it at home, I didn't watch it all the way through. I either fell asleep or walked away. When I woke up or came back in the room, I could careless what I missed. I basically didn't watch Spectre and I didn't even care. I still don't. Between Craig and watching what I did watch, I'm in no rush of actually watching the film from beginning to end.

I have a feeling you will love The Living Daylights.
