Having a bit of debate with a buddy of mine who is a Raiders fan (for the moment anyway) and he's trying to convince me that Derek Carr is one of the best QB's in the league while just having a bad year. I on the other hand am arguing that he's only had 1 good year and that 1 good year doesn't a great QB make. I don't think Carr is bad. I just don't think he's anything special. I'd say he's a top 20 QB.
He also thinks that Carr is the guy that Gruden needs to build around while I think he's going to get traded too before next season. (Which he says he'll become a fan of whatever team it is that acquires Carr)
So I want to know this, who's argument do you think is more accurate? Is Carr a top tier QB or is he alright/good but not great? Also, do you think Carr gets traded? If so, what could Carr get in return? I think a team like the Jaguars could give up at least a 1st round pick.

It's no coincidence that the Raiders have three first round picks, I totally think that Gruden will be looking for a quarterback. Watching Raiders games and Gruden's body language, I just don't think Chucky really digs Carr all that much.

I said the same thing to my friend but he was like "nah Gruden loved him in his QB camp" and my response was "at that time Gruden loved everybody. Now he's back coaching and actually has to think critically." I really don't think next year is going to be the time to draft a QB at the top. So maybe the other 2 picks he gathered would be more reasonable. Then again, perhaps he's looking towards 2020 with Tua or Fromm. Don't think the Raiders will be very good next year either.

Carr would be good for the Giants or Jaguars.

Carr would be good for the Giants or Jaguars. Jags make the most sense to me. I don't know if they have the salary relief to get him though unless Bortles is in the trade. I think the Jags SB window is right now and they're a QB away. Giants are a ways away and need to go through the rebuild process imo.

I mean he's gonna be there for a long time so either they're gonna be fair weather fans and abandon the team (which my friend said he'll do) or they're going to get excited for what's to come. I'm not sure Carr is the guy to build around so getting like a 1st and a 3rd for him? I think that's reasonable.

I’ve thought Carr is overrated for a while now, he is not a top tier QB, he’s just middle of the road. He isn’t the main issue on the Raiders but if he was a top tier QB the Raiders wouldn’t suck so badly, and I have a feeling Chucky will be looking for a new QB soon.

I like Carr, but I wouldn’t say he’s top 10. Like Top half so 16 or so. If my team had a shitty QB but ok otherwise I wouldn’t mind him on my team. Giants, Jags, Dolphins, or if a team with a young QB doesn’t pan out like the Cardinals. I can also see him as Big Ben’s successor.

Carr is a good QB, but he's not one of the best. And i think he is playing his last season with the Raiders.

Very good in 2016 when his line was awesome but he hasn't been the same since the leg break. He plays scared and makes bad decisions.

Jaguars seem to be sticking with him, despite all the evidence against him so far in his career.

With the amount of talent Oakland has, it's shocking to see them in last place. Goes to show just how hard it is to win games in this league. That being said, Carr is not the only problem this team has. He's a competent QB, I kind of agree that they're just having a bad season. We'll see what they can do from here.

I was just saying that I'm not sure where they are in terms of salary cap after they gave him an extension so idk if they could afford to have both Carr or Bortles on there team currently constructed. If Gruden is serious about tanking then trade for and play Bortles and he'll get there haha.

was he really crying on the field after getting hit according to reports and came out and awkwardly denied it?

First off, I don't think he was crying, it was a screwed-up facial expression....and second off, it's ridiculous to see so many people making such a big deal over it....there wasn't any of this crap when Luke Kuechly was crying on the field after he got clocked in the Saints game.

There is crying in football, just not in baseball.
