There are some words and phrases (in the media) that I just get tired of hearing. While I realize that not everyone can coin a new phrase the way that Shakespeare did, it seems like the media might vary their expressions from time to time just for the sake of variety.
Examples of overused expressions:
---"At the end of the day" which we used to call "in the final analysis" or "the bottom line is" or "when all is said and done." (all I ask is a little variety here..)
----"Utilized" is "overused" and at one time only appeared once in while...not all the time. What the media REALLY means to say is "used" because "utilize" has a special meaning. Doesn't anyone use anything anymore?
---"Methodology"...really? No, you really meant to say "Method OR Methods." Why use the -ology word when you meant to say was methods. Methodology, is more appropriately used for the study of methods rather than the methods themsleves.
Can you add to this list of overused words and phrases?..

"Methodology" is conventionally used to denote the specific procedures and analysis approach of a research project.

Here in hurricane territory you wouldn't believe how many times the media will say "hunker down" when a storm is (or possibly) approaching. This includes regular thunderstorms, not even hurricanes. I don't remember hearing this phrase on the television until fairly recently (maybe the past 10 years or so).

Yet, for scientific papers for journals we reported our papers in the following sections: Abstract (Introduction) Materials and MethodsResults Discussion References In all my years in science, I never remember reading the word, "Methology" in a journal paper. Maybe things have changed, but I still think methods are methods www.instruction.greenriver.edu/mcvay/B100/general_format_for_writing_a_sci.htm

Unsustainable Beg the question (overused and misused too) Very unique Eerily similar Breaking news (maybe just Wolf Blitzer) Breaking news! A package was sent to the Clintons that's eerily similar to one recently sent to George Soros. This is a very unique pattern that begs the question of its sustainability.

"Categorically denied". Why is every denial categorical now? I'm not sure what in hell that even means.

Then there is the non-denial denials such as: "That's ridiculous" when someone is asked a question and defects the answer.
There are a lot of these detractor that change the subject rather than giving an answer.

"We would like to warn our viewers that this video contains graphic images...graphic language... etc."
Graphic? Could be anything from a Venn diagram to a comic book. Couldn't they think of something more accurate?

"Going forward:" "What this will mean going forward..."
Do tell! I wish someone would surprise me once and tell me what something will mean going backward.
