My version.
Beat eggs.
Cut bread into quarters. Soak bread in egg.
Put bread in hot lightly oiled pan.
Wait.
Turn it over.
Wait.
Put it on a plate. Salt. Pepper.
Eat it.
5 minute job and tastes better than his. French Toast is, and should always be, simplicity itself!

Stag, your recipe sounds better ... and more like I used to make. As I recall, I add a bit of milk to the eggs, along with a pinch of salt. Heavy cream, and that much sugar, makes them sound very heavy and toooooooooooo sweet.
2 or 3 day-old crusty sourdough is my favorite bread. And, my "fave" topping is butter and a berry, or apricot jam.
A topping of just salt/pepper sounds interesting. That's what I add to oatmeal - along with butter. Peanut butter might be good on French Toast, as well.
I voted "weekends," because I can't say that I'm a strong "Oui!" Neither, am I a "Nah." It's been so long -- I'll have to try it, again.
Good one, Nuts.

Yes, I must have it as a savoury snack not sweet! I'll have to try a topping one of these days. I usually have just a drizzle of Cholula sauce on it! JUST a drizzle? I adore Cholula sauce. I have it on a lot of things. You can't beat it. I'm dying to try the lime version of it but can't find it anywhere. The garlic version is okay in small doses but I am not keen on the chipotle version. I can always try to find the lime version online, I suppose, but the last time I looked I saw a 150ml bottle selling for - and I kid you not - £42 ($54) The prices online in the UK vary wildly and some are just insane. Look at this price for one bottle of Cholula chipotle www.amazon.co.uk/Cholula-Chili-Chipotle-Sauce-Pack/dp/B0081ZBF64/ref=sr_1_34_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1540476024&sr=8-34&keywords=cholulaYes, £97 ($125) plus postage. Do they think we're crazy? But you can buy it in bulk for much more reasonable prices online.
