The witty interplay among the characters, especially when George Sanders is involved in all his reptilian glory, puts All About Eve at the top.

All About Eve - Great, witty dialogue. Also, my favorite George Sanders performance.

I found All About Eve a slog up until the second half. Sunset Boulevard was twisted from the start.

What a tough decision you've presented us with, Toasted Cheese!
In "All About Eve", you've got a great story, some of the best dialogue ever written and prime Bette Davis. It is an enormously entertaining movie.
In "Sunset Boulevard" you get a strong indictment against Hollywood, you get the coolest decaying mansion ever (w/creaking pipe organ, no less), a really good story and also you get Norma Desmond and Max! It pains me to have to make a choice like this and I kind of can't believe I'm going to do what I am about to do, but I gotta go with "Sunset Boulevard", as much as I adored "All About Eve" and , in particular, Bette Davis' warm, hyper-intelligent performance as Margo (I have always found that cinema characters named "Margot" are all pretty darned loony-tunes,all the way and to including to when Kelly Garrett got attracted to psycho tranny with ablonde wig a strait razor) in CA on th 15th season "Angel on Line"... Margos are just no damn good, they're all psyschopathics..
Still, I would have given "All About Eve: a solid 9.8

I saw All About Eve many years ago, but it was only this year that I finally saw Sunset Boulevard for the first time, and was blown away!

Sunset Blvd, if only on the basis of having seen All About Eve years ago, thinking it was good, but not remembering much about it.

Sunset Boulevard. Very atmospheric, and the nastiness is more subtle

Great match-up, however it's Sunset Blvd. easily for me.
Love the dark noirish tone and visuals, the scathing black humor, plus it opens with the main character floating dead in a swimming pool. It's near perfect and probably my favorite "classic" Hollywood film.
I've only seen All About Eve once and although I remember liking it well enough, nothing really stood out for me personally.

We have heard of the fame of these two great movies even far away in CHAD, where I am President, but I must say I prefer All About Eve. Excellent performance from Bette Davis. I would not have wanted her to be part of my harem in CHAD, though, she would have caused too much trouble.

I have seen All About Eve about 4 times and Sunset Blvd. twice. Sunset is the more technically polished, is full of atmosphere and Swanson is a revelation, but I do find her performance bit too mannered for my tastes. Yes, that was part of the point, since she was a silent movie star and was very expressive and used gestures a lot. Holden was hot and I would have loved to have seen him in Eve perhaps, but overall, I find All About Eve more bewitching and compelling entertainment. In spite of its blander presentation compared to Sunset and glaring flaw when Birdie's character, played by Thelma Ritter, just suddenly disappears, I go with All About Eve. I find it more readily watchable.
I feel it is the sharp and classy script\dialogue, Bette Davis as Margo, an under-appreciated Anne Baxter as Eve and a great support cast that elevates All About Eve to the classic status it deserves. I think I find the stage milieu more interesting as well for some reason here, compared to the film industry that Sunset is deriding.

I found All About Eve a slog up until the second half. Sunset Boulevard was twisted from the start. I find Eve compelling right from the start, right up until the end. This has much to do with Baxter's character as well. Sunset, I don't find quite so riveting.
When I first saw Eve, I didn't know much about it or the story and just went along with it. Baxter sucked me in right away and I felt fooled by her as well.
