Everyone complains about how terrible it is, but it's by far the most popular board here. I don't think I've ever posted there and maybe read about three threads when I've used the Recent Threads function on the odd occasion.

Yes - from time to time
I am sure people complain about how terrible it is because of the drama as when people speak politics or religion in general things can become heated quick especially if you got two people talking them who are basically opposites of each other and feel pretty strongly about their position.

They should change the name to "The Trump Board".

I never read or post on either the Politics or Religion boards for the same reason - it's a waste of time. No matter how well thought out or articulated your positions are, it's extremely unlikely that anyone will ever change their mind based on what they read on an internet message board.

I have, but it's a complete and total waste of time.

Yes, I post on there all the time.
I occasionally become embroiled in a heavy-duty discussion or debate, but I normally try to keep my contributions brief and to the point, or light-hearted and humorous. I also sometimes try to appeal to the commonalities that posters from both sides of the political aisle share with each other, but this has met with limited success.
I have mixed feelings about the politics board.

I don't think I have posted in politics here. I try talking politics every once in a while and I am reminded that someone who is the type to try to respect others values and seek compromise is seen as weak, vs being convicted that while we are on this world together, that there are solutions that can at least solve parts of the problems for the most people by not completely satisfying one or the other extreme.
I usually end up catching it from both directions when I do that, and know why aisle crossers are an endangered species in politics.

Yes, but not because I'm looking to post on the politics board, if that makes sense. The board I go to is the "Recent Threads board." That's always what I use. So it just depends on what's popping up there. Because the politics board is so active, I wind up posting on those threads often. I don't actually have much interest in day-to-day politics though. The things that people care about when it comes to politics, and the opinions they have about the stuff they care about tend to just annoy me. I hardly ever watch the news because of this, too. So I'd rather talk about other stuff--more just like general discussion/"shooting the shit" kind of casual talk, but politics is what's most active here, so I wind up posting on those threads. I never pay attention to the particular board of any thread I'm posting on, by the way. In other words, I never know if I'm posting on a politics board thread, a film general thread, etc. I have no idea what board this thread is on, either. (although I just looked now since I brought it up . . . but usually my eyes just never go to that part of the screen)

(I would say this point of view factors in to your overall likability. ) Politics have never interested me. I remember one time I conscientiously set out to read a newspaper, but I got distracted by a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. It's all just a bunch of yelling and finger pointing to me. Politics do not, IMO, bring out the best in people.

No matter how well thought out or articulated your positions are, it's extremely unlikely that anyone will ever change their mind based on what they read on an internet message board. I started on the RFS board, hoping to inject some logic and reason, and start a conversation that might tone down the "My religion is right and everyone else's is wrong" notion, looking for coexistence, but no... not possible. In essence, same with the Politics board, only it is more brutal and combative. Tribalism seems to still be hard-wired into human beings. I visit from time to time, but rarely post anymore.

Although I post regularly on the politics board, I rarely start a thread of my own.
However, I just did, because I felt people - from both sides of politics - were overlooking something obvious and important.
It'll most likely be a wasted effort, but from time to time I get this illogical urge to charge at windmills.
It must be the Dutch blood in me...
