A few that come to mind for me are… Modern Times Psycho THX-1138 Cabaret Being There Batman (1989) "Psycho" and "Cabaret" are both very intense final shots. I would also add Amy Irving being held by her mom in "Carrie" and the freeze frame final shot of "Gallipoli"

I loved the final shot in "Badlands" where Sissy Spacek is looking out the window of the plane and the sun is above the clouds. The whole movie is beautiful, but that shot really got me.

I also love the final shot in Dario Argento's "Tenebre" where Daria Nicolodi is screaming her head off after witnessing a particularly brutal and totally unexpected death. Oh, she screams and the credits roll and she screams and screams and screams.... It is awesomely chilling.

Oh, that's heartstopping! The way Sally screams and screams mindlessly! Poor Sally.... And then there's Leatherface's rage. But the look on Sally's face and her rocking back and forth is what really gave me pause. Her screaming and laughing together is bone-chilling. Great choice!!!

On another note, that is hilarious that post-viewing, the next thing we see is Christina Crawford! In the movie "Mommie Dearest" that would have been too funny if Mommie had taken a chainsaw to the tree instead of an axe. Brrrrr.... Brrrr....

The Searchers would be my favorite. Vertigo a close 2nd. Not mentioned, Greed (1924) ![]() Can't find a good pic, but the ending of another silent, Pandora's Box. Jack walking away through the light then shadow, then light. The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance. Not the throwaway train, but the stricken looks of James Stewart and Vera Miles faces when the conductor say "nothing's too good for the Man who shot Liberty Valance"

Some Like It Hot ("Well, nobody's perfect!") Gone With the Wind (Right after "After all, tomorrow is another day!") Around the World in 80 Days ("This IS the end." And by George, so it was! ) Freaks (It's horrifying, but beautifully done) Dr. Strangelove (All too timely) Gunga Din ("You're a better man than I am, Gunga Din!") 1776 (The way the actors/characters become the painting of the signing of the Declaration...wonderful!)

Misery
that last shot of Paul Sheldon smiling after that woman tells him she's his number one fan, then right before it goes black you see his face get serious for a Split Second, great final shot.
