A former member of Danny Gatton's band tells me that Gatton is playing slide on this track. Gatton and Wray both lived in Southern Maryland. I'm not so sure about that. I'd be surprised if it is so. Link Wray wrote the song, and presumably would have played the guitar parts, apart from the mandolin. I checked the CD liner notes and there's no mention of Danny Gatton. You'd think that would be corrected if he did play on it. He got no credit on the original pressing, nor on the CD release. Link did play with him with Robert Gordon, I believe. If it's true, it would upset me a little bit. 'Fire and Brimstone' is a favorite track. My friend said that Gatton loved Link Wray but disliked that track and didn't ask for credit.

If true, he's missed out on a nice little earner, as 'Fire and Brimstone' has appeared on a few compilations in recent years. I'll keep it as a possible factoid in my back pocket. [edit:] Gatton died in the 90's so earning royalties would be a little difficult...

Supportive info: www.tdpri.com/threads/1970s-link-wray-lp-recommended.42801/Fire and Brimstone got a good deal of airplay in the DC area as Link Wray (and Danny Gatton) lived just south of DC. Great track in my view.

The way BB bent strings, it's no surprise he broke one in the middle of a number. But see how he puts on a new string!
