'Rock In The Road'
I liked it overall. The mystery person that followed Rick back to Alexandria-- I assume he had a vehicle, or did he have Jesus ninja skills that got him onto/into the truck and back off again without being seen?

Just rewatched the start. Filmed like Father Gabriel took the food and weapons on purpose, without coercion from the mystery person, yet the mystery person is seen in the car with him as he drives away.

I didn't notice the mystery person in the car at all. According to Gabriel in last night's episode they were already inside Alexandria when he discovered them. They took him but we never saw anyone around him when we see him load up the car and drive away. That's when the head pops up in the passenger/back seat. This is the makers of the show cheating, showing the viewer one thing when in reality something else is happening.
We've seen it before, when the Saviours release the walkers into the Hilltop and everyone is 'locked' inside and of course Glenn's garbage bin escape.

I did hear his explanation, I just didn't notice the person in the car. The writing on the show is not a strength.

It was a decent episode, but not the usual exciting "Season Premiere". In fact, maybe the worst season premiere. The opening, with Father Gabriel created a new mystery, but over all was a dull and uninspiring opening. The whole 1st half, with Rick and Co. talking to Ezekiel was boring, along with the Gregory segment. Total frustration as everyone is saying "No", to rising up against the Saviors. The last part was interesting with the road encounter with another herd. This scene, I feel, was filmed in such a confusing way maybe to hide the fact that it was really not thought out too well. I was so confused about where they were, where the blockade was, where the "booby trap" was, where the walker herd was coming from, and how it ended. Also Rosita suddenly being an expert on anything. Why the hell was there an explosion when they basically removed all that before they left? And why did they stop so far away from the vehicles they needed to get to? All I can say is there is NO WAY that anyone, (Saviors), coming upon that scene later would not know that someone was there and took the explosives. Plus, 1 to 2 hundred walkers cut in half with the cable! It was a cool stunt, but cannot be explained away as far as plot goes!
PS..Rick's "Rock in the Road" speech might be inspiring to a 5 or 6 year-old, but seemed very weak to convince an adult to go to war!!!
My favorite part was the radio eulogy that Negan gave to Fat Joey!
