Hey all - Just finished a short comedy film i wrote and directed. would LOVE any feedback if you can give a watch. Its a comedy so supposed to be funny but thats probably up for debate. Anyways if anyone has a spare 10 mins would love any feedback , good or bad. Only takes 8 minutes to watch to end. Looking for help as a new comedy film maker. Its not a full picture lock yet and few editing issues but fairly complete. As a new film maker really appreciate any feedback from people who love the industry. thanks guys!! vimeo.com/297431570/93f610b809

I thought it was funny. It looks promising. If you can deliver about another hour and a half, you'll have a good feature film.

Looked great and the actors were solid.
I've seen quite a few shorts that looked way more amateurish (sadly not on purpose) on all aspects, over the years.
You did very well.

That was excellent. It was funny and engaging throughout. The camerawork and acting are also spot on. Bravo.

Great job!! As others posted the actors and the camera work are really good. Especially the main guy is great. I loved his facial expressions; very telling.
There are a few minor editing issues that I am certain you know of but other than that, its super.
If this is your early work as a filmmaker you have a solid future ahead of you.
If I was reviewing this as a part of my job I would honestly give it a high mark. And here is why:
You were able to create and introduce compelling characters that I would be interesting in knowing more about (seeing another episode perhaps) and you delivered a somewhat unexpected turn of events at the urinal with Andyconda actually craving the validation of his nickname, that was quite funny. And u got good actors to convey the story.
Really, good job. Just watch the axis rule / tighten the few edits I am sure you know about, and perhaps next time introduce one more type of a shot (like over shoulder to accompany the direct to face close up/ medium shot) in the table dialogue or cut to the non talking character when the other one is talking (both are good enough actors to be able to pull off a reacting shot and do it well) and u have a really great work here.
congrats, really, it was very easy to keep watching and be engaged.

I'm also starting a filmmaking career, so I don't want to act like I know everything, but I will tell you something I discovered after making 2 shorts: Whether or not the viewer thinks the filmmaker has potential depends more on the originality than the production values. Even if the idea isn't 100% original, then there has to be something fresh and unique about it. Your production looks professional enough and the performances are good, but... Well, when the short started, I thought "The "My girlfriend runs into her ex and I get ignored" trope? It was already done too many times in late 90s/early 00s sitcoms." When they went to the bathroom, I thought "Now he's ripping off ANGER MANAGEMENT?" You did manage to give the situation a twist that kept my interest and made me laugh a couple of times, so I'd say there is potential... as long as you keep in mind what I've said when you make the next one.

Thanks for the advice. Ive actually never seen Anger Management so Im not sure what part of that movie Im ripping off so I guess I better check that movie out, I was unaware of this. Ultimately I made the film to give people a laugh, wasnt really trying to tackle new ground and am aware the guy insecure about his girlfriends ex is a scenario done a lot before but kind of figure everything has been done in at least some capacity in comedies before. Again I dont think youll find any short film that everyone agrees on being good or bad or loves or hates...same goes for any feature movie but im glad you at least got a couple of laughs out of it. Thanks again for your feedback, I do appreciate it.
