Avengers Assemble was excellent
The Avengers was crap. 1st, the villains were really weak. No superpowers at all. All it took was 1 nuclear missile from the military to defeat hundreds of Chitauri invaders. By contrast, in BvS, Doomsday was hit with a nuclear missile and still couldn't be stopped.
The Chitauri were really weak and presented no threat at all. It's not much of a superhero movie when the villains are so weak that they presented no threat at all and the villains could've been defeated without the heroes at all (in this case, all it took was 1 nuclear missile from the U.S. military to defeat hundreds of Chitauri so why was there any need for the Avengers when (A) the Avengers didn't even have enough firepower or weapons to defeat the Chitauri on their own and (B) the U.S. military already had enough firepower and weapons, or more exactly weapon, to defeat the Chitauri without the Avengers?
2nd, the writing was really bad and the scenes were completely illogical and unnecessary. For example, the Council saying they're ordering the use of nuclear weapons and then Nick Fury saying "No, I don't approve" and arguing with the Council over the use of nuclear weapons. Only the POTUS can make the decision whether or not to use nuclear weapons so it was completely illogical and unnecessary for the Council and Nick Fury to argue over the use of nuclear weapons since neither of them had the authority to make the final decision anyway. And where was the POTUS during the invasion?
At least during BvS, Secretary Swanwick was in contact with the POTUS over the phone and the POTUS gave the order to fire a nuclear missile at Doomsday. But where was the POTUS in the Avengers when aliens were attacking the most populous city in the country? Even if they didn't want to show the POTUS onscreen, they could've had the POTUS on the phone. But they were too stupid to even have that.
3rd, in order to make the Avengers look good, they said that the military had been called, but it would take them over an hour to get to Manhattan. So they're saying that, even after 9/11, it takes the U.S. military ore than an hour to scramble fighter jets to fly over New York, the most populous city in the country and the site of terrorist attacks on more than 1 occasion?
And why does Captain America have to play traffic cop and direct the people where to run? They're saying that, even after 9/11, the city of New York hasn't trained their police officers to properly evacuate civilians in the event of another attack on the city?
4th, since Black Widow, Captain America, and Hawkeye couldn't fly, they had to give them something to do other than standing around doing nothing while the Chitauri were flying around on those machines shooting at people on the ground. So they had the Chitauri, supposedly an advanced alien race that had invaded plenty of other planets before, do the completely illogical and unstrategic thing and fly low enough so that Black Widow could jump onto 1 of their flying machines and hijack it. When you have the ability to fly and shoot at people from the sky and your opponent is on the ground with no ability to fly, you have a huge tactical advantage. Why the hell would you do something as illogical and unstrategic as fly below the height of the buildings, which results in obstructing your view and allowing your opponent to jump on your flying machine? Completely illogical and made no sense at all.
5th, the claim that the damage was limited to 5 square city blocks, which is complete BS. Black Widow, Captain America, and Hawkeye couldn't fly. Hulk can jump high but can't fly. The Chitauri had the ability to fly with those flying machines. So the Chitauri could fly anywhere in Manhattan or the city or the state or the country and the Avengers couldn't do anything to stop them. Why would the Chitauri, supposedly an advanced alien race that had invaded plenty of other planets before, do the completely illogical and unstrategic thing and voluntarily stay within a 5 square city block area, which allowed their opponent to target their attack in 1 central area? When you have the numbers advantage, you always spread out so that your opponent can't target their attack in 1 central area.
So it made no sense at all that the Chitauri stayed within the 5 square city block area, especially when they could see from the sky that where people were running to and could easily follow the people and target them from the sky without any resistance from Black Widow, Captain America, and Hawkeye (none of whom can fly). Logically, the Chitauri would've chased after all those people from the sky and would've spread out throughout the entire city and destroyed the entire city and killed hundreds of thousands (not jus the few hundred that the movie claimed were killed).
I thought that Civil War tepid
I agree. The entire Civil War movie was 1 huge plothole. Iron Man and Captain America fight because Captain America didn't tell Iron Man that his parents were murdered by the Winter Soldier and there was a videotape proving it.
1st, Captain America was still frozen in ice at the bottom of the ocean when the Starks were murdered. How the hell did Captain America know that it was murder and know that HYDRA had a videotape of it, that no one else even knew existed but Zemo miraculously finds 25 years after the murders?
2nd, Tony Stark believed for 25 years that his parents died in a road accident. Didn't Tony read the coroner's report - the part where it says "Maria Stark cause of death - asphyxiation due to strangulation"? Or did the coroner actually rule their deaths a road accident? How could the coroner rule their deaths a road accident when the Winter Soldier strangled Maria Stark, which wuld leave obvious handprints around Maria Stark's throat? Was the coroner just incompetent?
3rd, Team Iron Man knows that Captain America and the Winter Soldier are going to the airport to hijack the quinjet to make their escape. Yet no one on Team Iron Man thinks of saying "Hey, let's disable the quinjet by draining the fuel tank or removing the engine so that they can't hijack it." But then, there wouldn't have been any big fight scene at the airport, and the movie needed a big fight scene, even if it was the lamest fight scene ever in a comic-book movie.
and the airport fight poor.
I agree. Idiots complain aout the "Martha" scene in BvS, but the dialog in the CIvil War airport fight was much worse.
"Are we still going to be friends after this?"
"You have a METAL arm!"
"Mr. Stark, what do I do now?"
"I'm from Queens." "I'm from the Bronx." Who cares? This is supposed to be a fight, not a high school dance!
