I love starting from the "talkie" era (1930s) and go decade by decade, as well as country by country (or at least continent/region/language), and the one language I've only seen a few dozen movies are in Arabic... The last 3-4 movies I saw were Arabic, and they were great, so I thought I'd ask you all because I want to see more (30-70s,,, for now).
I'll rate the ones I saw to give recommendations, and also to receive recommendations more aligned with the movies I'll mention below...
-Chitchat on the Nile (Adrift on the Nile) - 9/10 -There's a Man in Our House - 7.5/10 -Cairo 30 - 8/10

Lion of the Desert (1981) by Moustapha Akkad was a pretty good war epic in the style of “Lawrence of Arabia”.

Well, Lawrence of Arabia leaps to mind.

Haven't seen many, but A Separatation was pretty good.

I'm one of a very few classic movie lovers who didn't like "Lawrence..." but I'll take a chance on "Lion of the Desert"

Movies from the Middle East or about the Middle East?
If it's the latter, Persepolis is one of the only movies that comes to my mind.
Persepolis
Waltz with Bashir
The Insult
The Insult is intense.
I also heard of A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night. That could be interesting. I've never seen an Iranian vampire film before. Don't imagine they're a common occurrence either.

"A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night" was filmed with cast, director, and crew all from Iran. But, as they are refugees from government censorship, it was shot entirely in the United States, so something of a hybrid. I guess it is up to the individual to decide whether or not it is an "Iranian" film.

Thanks for the recommendations. Are they accessible in the US? i.e. can you get Region 1 copies (non-PAL). Or are their any other sources online?

The others: Bikur Ha-Tizmoret (The Band’s Visit) / Eran Kolirin (2007) Baran / Majid Majidi (2001) Talaye Sorkh (Crimson Gold) / Jafar Panahi (2003) Darbareye Elly (About Elly) / Asghar Farhadi (2009) Paradise Now / Hany Abu-Assad (2005) Theeb / Naji Abu Nowar (2014) I saw in theaters in Dallas and Santa Fe. The Debt was remade in Hollywood in 2010 with Helen Mirren and Jessica Chastain. Theeb was the first film from Jordan to be Oscar nominated for Best Foreign Film The Band’s Visit has been made into a musical and, I think, is playing in NYC now. Good luck finding them. I think they were all very good films.

Iran may be one of the finest filmmaking nations in the world at the moment. If I had to recommend just one film it would be Makhmalbaf's A Moment of Innocence (1996). Sublime, with one of the most beautifully moving endings ever.
