Keith Hernandez does this ALL THE TIME. he always complains that we baby pitchers today and they can't pitch 200 innings anymore. well, the game has changed. out pitchers are stronger, throw harder, and out bullpens are specialized better than in the past. will someone tell this guy it's not the 80's anymore?

He's right. They are babied in all levels so when they get to MLB, they are marshmallows.

true, but they do get injured a lot more than they did in the past. pitchers used to hit 300 innings back in the day . . . koufax, ryan, etc. what is the reason pitchers get injured more today? i think they do more weightlifting and get bulky. they throw harder.

Uhh, so has nutrition and medicine. If a guy is not allowed to go 200 innings in 2017, then there is seriously something wrong with that decision making process.

200 innings is fine, i draw the line around 270 thought.. i don't want to see my starter throwing 120-130 pitches and giving up a lead because the hitters saw him too many times, and then being tired for his next outing. i would rather my fireballer, specialized 7th inning guy come out and strike out the side.

Look, baseball officially died when a team's ace pitcher was not allowed to pitch in the playoffs. You know, that Strasburg farce.
One of the sports premier players, the face of the future of the sport, a player so good that he would draw eyeballs to the TV set, a player that could help your team win a championship!!!....and he was sat for the friggin' playoffs!
I will never, ever be a fan of the sport. And many others felt the same revulsion I felt. Sure, I'll watch opening day Mets, go to CitiField two or three times this year, but to follow the sport after that Strasburg sh!t? No way. Why should I? My team makes the playoffs...and then I am told Noah and Harvey won't be participating? What fan would want to experience that? So the solution is not to be a fan.

And to be fair and balanced like a FOX, I will add that my fave NBA is going through something not as repulsive, but pretty darn disgusting. Resting players en masse. Fuck that! Fuck you, LeBron! I finally get my TV fixed (it always seems to break when Andy Murray plays tennis), I sit down to watch a classic matchup between Spurs and Cavs, and that prick LeBum needs a rest night. Along with Kyrie and Kevin Love. Not good. NBA must somehow fix that. I have no idea how, but this is hurting the game. A fight (boxing, remember that?) actually outdrew that Cavs game in the TV ratings. And outdrew it bigly -- three times as many viewers. NBA did take note of that.

There's a theory it's because kids are throwing more nowadays than they used to. I have kids who pitch in high school and varsity ball has this year instituted a pitch count. 65 pitch limit. The idea is to get the kids to throw less. I see it as counter-productive. You want stronger arms...by working them less?

I think the actual injury rates are probably fairly similar when comparing eras. I think what's changed are:
- Diagnostic medicine has improved, thereby catching injuries sooner, thereby causing more frequent trips to the DL - Pitchers themselves pointing out injuries more honestly and openly so that they don't jeopardize future earning ability especially in a contract year - Stronger crackdown on performance enhancing drugs of all kinds has reduced pitchers' endurance - Despite advances in training and nutrition, today's players are just bigger pussies than players from previous eras - The Stephen Strasburg situation would NEVER have happened back in the day.

ok? hey marco, are you really kenne? i wouldn't be mad at all if you were. i liked kenne, and he isn't here. are you him? Just this once I will respond to a question so stupid even a retard would laugh at it. First off, who the fuck is kenne? Secondly, why would I ever be two people? Thirdly, this idea of socks is the most absurd thing I have ever heard. So I am going to write things under two or three different names? Why would I write my good points, my good jokes, my good insults and put them under other names? Uhh, you do realize that in the dying days of IMDb people were saying anything they wanted. The best lie to throw out there would be to say that they were all along the king of that sports board, marco26. Douche bags wanting to take credit for being me. Never had any talent to be me. So in the final days they said things no one could challenge them on. I am sure in those final days you actually claimed you were a heterosexual.
