that they players were juiced. people loved it back then. i was a kid, but i remember my dad was glued to the TV to see mcquires 62nd home run. so, were the fans back then that loved the chase aware of steroids? were they in denial? or were they just ignorant?

We didn't really fully understand the full extent of what the steroids were doing. We knew the two were on something (a substance was seen in McGwire's locker), but we didn't attribute the homers fully to the roids. However, there were a few people who were disgusted by the whole home run chase. They knew it was ALL steroid driven. They were right.
I also remember some folks being mad at fans for cheering these players hitting home runs against their favorite teams in their ball parks. Sosa cracks a home run at Shea Stadium and Met fans cheered. it was weird and bad.

If people knew, they probably didnt cared like they do today. Also, the 1998 home run chase is what brought back baseball for a lot of people. Baseball was still suffering from the 1994 strike when it happened.

They were probably in denial, just like Patriots fans are in denial about Brady's cheating in DeflateGate. yeah, it's shameful that people didn't know back then or completely ignored it Yep. It's also shameful that Brady fanboys completely ignore Brady's cheating. But like I had written in another thread, Brady fanboys just don't want to admit that their hero is a cheater and a fraud.

Google a pic of McGwire at USC and. Pic of him with Oakland. Look at Sosa's career numbers. Everyone knew, no one cared. Until Canseco's book.

I quit paying attention when they canceled the end of the season and World Series in 94. In 98 I thought that the league was behind it - the balls, probably. I didn't come back to baseball until 2001 or so, when a guy talked me into trying Fantasy.

I had an Indians season ticket package then and made it a point to go to the games against St Louis and got to see 2 of Mcguires home runs in person. There was talk and Mcguire was using android but it wasn't banned at the time. In hindsight, it's obvious baseball turned a blind eye and was also about electing fans back after a cancelled world series. Many of us, me included, had an idea of it then

agreed. MLB let it go to get the fans back. Enough time has passed to set the record straight. If "MLB let it go to get the fans back" it is time to correct the record book. We both know who holds the single season home run record. The real single season home run record.

Many of us, me included, had an idea of it then Yep, just like it's obvious that Patriots supporters turn a blind eye to all the cheating by the Patriots. MLB's official record books show that McGwire and Sosa both passed Ruth and Maris with 70 and 66 HRs that year, but now everyone knows that they cheated and those HR numbers are tainted by cheating. Likewise, everyone outside of New England now knows that Brady cheated and at least 4 of his Super Bowl wins are tainted by cheating. (The 5th may also have been tainted by cheating, but it hasn't been uncovered yet. It took 6 years to uncover the cheating in SpyGate so it's possible that the 5th Super Bowl may have also been won by cheating but the cheating just hasn't been uncovered yet.) That will never happen, nor will a silly asterisk. Even if MLB doesn't put an asterisk on those HR numbers, everyone knows that those HR numbers are tainted by cheating and aren't legitimate. Likewise, everyone outside New England knows that at least 4 of the Patriots Super Bowl wins are tainted by cheating and aren't legitimate. (The 5th may also have been tainted by cheating, but it hasn't been uncovered yet. I didn't know. I "grew up" loving the A's with Ricky Henderson and the Bash brothers, et al (well I was too young to really remember them, but they were my first favourites) and was devastated when I realized they definitely had juiced. The substance that was found/seen in McGwire's workout/equipment/whatever bag was androstenedione. It was a substance that was prescription only here, but was available over the counter in most (possibly all) states.

THIS IS ABOUT baseball. We know about your man crush on Tom brady, but not everything is about NE. We get your obsession, and youve been proven wrong time and time again, let it go.
THIS-IS-ABOUT-BASEBALL. Wanna cry about NE, make another thread.
You dont wanna admit Dallas is a disaster right now. Hang on to that "best record in the NFL" because you aint sniffing a title for awhile.
This is about baseball, get over your weird Patriots stalking.
Whoa...we are discussing baseball, ALRIGHT! Ok, lets continue:
Ahhh g@d d@mnit!
Youve been pretty much owned on this topic, man you must love being owned on a constant basis.
Im not addressing the rest, more about,"MARSHA MARSHA MARSHA." Basically, Dallas fanboy is mad his team is no longer the "it" team, and NE has passed him by. Sad really.
As far as this goes (You know....the ACTUAL topic) as someone else wrote baseball was struggling bad from the 1994 strike. I think people had suspicions, but MLB had to bring fans back.
I admit though it was weird. As someone else pointed out, Sosa hits a homer in Shea and fans cheered...fn weird.
