Not only can it set is free from lust, greed, dominance for power ect, it can even cute natural attacks against body and soul.

I could never get into Buddhism. Seemed like there were too many lists trying to explain things and very little of it rang true to me.

Also, about freeing yourself from lust, greed, and power. If you're free from those things and most others aren't, doesn't that put you at a bit of a disadvantage?
