THE LOST WORLD: JURASSIC PARK (1997) 5/5.
The second instalment in the JURASSIC PARK film series, THE LOST WORLD: JURASSIC PARK, is an American science fiction film filled with plenty of action and adventure. The screenplay was written by David Koepp, who based it loosely on Michael Crichton's 1995 novel, THE LOST WORLD. The film was produced by Gerald R Molen and Colin Wilson and was directed by Steven Spielberg. The excellent film soundtrack was once again provided by John Williams.
Jeff Goldblum returns as eccentric mathematician Ian Malcolm, leading a new cast that includes Julianne Moore, Pete Postlethwaite, Vince Vaughn, Vanessa Lee Chester, and Arliss Howard. Jeff Goldblum was the only actor from the first film to return in a major role. There are also cameo return appearances by Joseph Mazzello, Ariana Richards and Richard Attenborough in their roles from the first film.
Four years after the events of the first film, off the Pacific coast of Costa Rica, on the island of Isla Sorna, the cloned dinosaurs made by John Hammond's InGen have been roaming free in their own ecosystem. Learning that his nephew, who took control of InGen, is planning to capture the Isla Sorna dinosaurs and bring them to the mainland, Hammond sends an expedition led by Doctor Ian Malcolm to arrive there before InGen's squad. The two groups confront each other in the face of extreme danger and then team up in order to survive.
Although this film was a sequel and was technically not quite as fresh or original as the first one, I have still always preferred it slightly more.

Interesting opinion. Then again, I already heard a few prefer it.

Interesting opinion. Then again, I already heard a few prefer it. Well, a sequel that can rival an original in popularity is probably a positive thing for a budding film franchise.

Either Spielberg was distracted by Schinder's List or indifferent--but I think the LW made better use of the dinosaurs. There's quite a bit of sitting around in JP discussing techno-babble, much like Westworld (but that film was a half hour shorter).

My favorite of the Jurassic movies, by a good margin.

I always enjoyed this one. The environmental message is confused but I dug the expanded role of Malcolm, the action scenes are outstanding, and it added arguably the coolest character to appear in the franchise...Roland Tembo.

Julianne Moore is godawful in it.
One of her worst performances, and that's saying a lot.

Julianne Moore is godawful in it. One of her worst performances, and that's saying a lot. However bad she might have been, the kids were more annoying.
