As much as I dislike the vast majority of season 6, I always come back to the same conclusion that season 7 starts off really strong, and had, ironically enough, a lot of potential.... that is until all of the Potentials showed up....
Re-watching "Lessons," I like seeing Buffy train Dawn in the beginning of the episode, the return of Sunnydale High. Principal Wood is great, I like the new Scoobie-esque group formed between Dawn and her new friends, and I'm disappointed we'll never see them again.
And of course, the First's monologue is awesome.

A very strong opener for the final season. It really did set up a great arc of going back to the beginning.
Unfortunately, it gets too sidetracked with Spike (that's my biggest problem with the season).

It has a notably 'sunnier' feel compared with what came before and it's nice to be back in high school again. I don't love this episode, however. At the end of Season 6, I'd been eager to learn what was to become of soulful Spike and this season opener didn't really provide a satisfactory answer. An OK premiere episode. Definitely not the worst of them, but probably my least favourite to be penned by Joss Whedon himself.
