in the next 5-10 years I predict we get remakes of
Jaws Exorcist Caddyshack Porkys Rock N Roll Highschool Sandlot (^ all of those are long due for a remake)
Psycho Amityville Horror (^ Hollywood has had plenty of time to forget about the last two remakes of these films expect another remake announced for both soon)
The Howling (^ give it the Twilight treatment I hear Taylor Lautner isn't done ruining the Werewolf genre yet)
Naked Gun (^ Surprised this hasn't happened yet)
Police Academy (^ Same as Naked Gun)
along with meaningless comic book films and meaningless sequels Squirrel Girl (the Movie) - because its marvel and got to be good right? Transformer part 34 Fast and Furious part 16 Paranormal Activity part 55 Star Wars Part 13 Annabelle Part 10 Insidious Part 36 The Conjuring Part 25 Spider man reboot (again) X-Men reboot (again) Batman reboot (again) Superman reboot (again)
as long as all u youngins are heading to the theatre paying to see this crap its going to continue to get worse

the current state of movies will get better when idiots like you stop whining and bitching everytime Hollywood remakes a movie or tv show from your childhood. and stop acting like those movies and shows were met only for you

I'm sincerely surprised that no one has tried to make a Jaws sequel or one of those reboots masquerading as a sequel.

I'm sincerely surprised that no one has tried to make a Jaws sequel or one of those reboots masquerading as a sequel. There's so many shark movies being made there's no need for another Jaws.

as long as all u youngins are heading to the theatre paying to see this crap its going to continue to get worse It's not supply and demand. Hollywood has money to burn. Secondly, they see film as a propaganda delivery system, so they don't really care about content.
This is why it is so bad. It is not AIP type business. The companies are giant and they don't care about audiences. They don't have to. They have monopoly-like control and do not have to maker products according to merit.
Rian Johnson or JJ Abrams would only be qualified to be a production assistant if they worked in movies a few decades ago.

I'm sincerely surprised that no one has tried to make a Jaws sequel or one of those reboots masquerading as a sequel. Maybe cause Spielberg is most respected filmmaker in Hollywood , just wait for him to die, the remakes won't stop

Certain studios are waiting for certain filmmakers to eventually die off so they can fully take control of their films and exploit them with remakes, reboots, etc.

For those who want to take risks there are alternatives. Have a look at festival winners in Berlin, Venice, Cannes, Tokyo, Locarno, Sundance, Toronto, ... and foreign language oscar candidates like "The Square" or "On Body and Soul"
A week ago I've been in a screening of "On Body and Soul" (Hungarian movie)
About 50 people watching, nobody left cinema while the credits were rolling, the audience was too awe struck!

Audiences don't go to see original or challenging movies. What the hell do you expect the studios to do when all they want to do is make money? Support the original stuff or shut up about it.

I've been co-hosting the event, so I have the right to talk about it. There are several ways to make money, throwing money in a big movie production that might become a blockbuster is the most common way, but it's only ONE way. A Second way is taking a foreign movie that already exists and remake it for another audience - still You need risk and medium money invest. A third way is taking a foreign movie that already exists as an original (with some work on subtitle or lip-synch) and do some micro target marketing for the right audience. This 3rd way won't let you make THE big money but there are options to keep risks and invested money low, so You have serious chances to get a surprise success. The candidates for foreign language Oscars already help You marketing this foreign movie for a bigger audience.

The fact that Taylor Lautner is the first person he thinks of when talking about a werewolf movie makes me think the OP isn't exactly an expert on the modern film industry.

Who said they are just for us. New young people are more than welcome to watch the classics. Why would it need to be remade for new people to watch them?
